Margaret racked her brain, thinking back carefully. “No, there wasn’t a watch.”

A knot of panic tightened in Jasmine’s chest. “Think again, please. I’m positive I left it in the coat pocket.”

“There really wasn’t one,” Margaret said firmly. “I remember that coat vividly-it’s the one you wore home the day you hurt your shoulder. When you handed it to me for the cleaners, I checked every single pocke thoroughly. They were completely empty.”

Jasmine bolted upright. “Margaret, quick, help me look around! Could it have dropped somewhere?”

Seeing how frantic she was, Margaret couldn’t help but ask, “Is that watch very important?”

Ignoring her exhaustion, Jasmine started tearing the room apart, searching everywhere. “It was a gift from Ethan’s late mother. He treasures it. The day he saved me, he gave it to me to hold onto, and now…”

Margaret panicked when she heard that. “Oh, dear! That’s irreplaceable. It must mean the world to him- we can’t lose it!”

Jasmine knew that all too well.

It couldn’t be lost. How could she ever face Ethan if it was?

But after turning the entire house upside down, they still found absolutely nothing.

Jaśmine collapsed onto a chair, completely drained. “It’s gone.”

How was she ever going to explain this to Ethan?

Margaret tried to comfort her. “Don’t panic just yet, Jasmine. Maybe you just put it somewhere and forgot about it. Finding lost things is funny that way-the harder you look, the less they show up. Then the moment you stop searching, they just pop up on their own.”

Jasmine managed a weak smile. “I hope you’re right, Margaret.”

That afternoon, Jasmine went to the bank.

After verifying her ID, the bank clerk handed her a small but surprisingly heavy wooden box.

Jasmine opened it. Her immediate instinct was to look for the address Arthur had mentioned. Sure enough, she found it inside a white envelope.

Along with the address was a name: Anna Whitmore.

So, her mother’s name was Anna.

Jasmine pulled out her phone and typed the address into the search bar. To her surprise, it wasn’t in Rivercrest at all, but out in the countryside of another city called Chestnut Grove. Driving there would take nearly five hours each way.

Keeping her in a rural area so far from Rivercrest made it obvious why Arthur had been so cautious. He was clearly terrified that Eleanor would find out.

After saving the location to her phone, Jasmine tore the paper into pieces and tossed them into the trash.

Only then did she turn her attention back to the rest of the box. No wonder it felt so heavy; it was filled with an assortment of jewelry. Arthur had been secretly saving these pieces for her over the years, keeping, them tucked away in a safe deposit box to avoid any draina with Eleanor.

Beneath the jewelry lay a stack of dozens of photographs. Every single one was of Jasmine alone. At a glance, it was obvious the photographer wasn’t very skilled; a few of the shots were completely blurry.

On the back of each photo, her age was written out: one year old, two years old, three years old… all the way up to twenty-five.

The one from her twenty-fifth year showed Jasmine in a stark white wedding dress. It was the day she married Silas. She was standing in the crowd, eyes searching for him, her face full of hope and adoration!

Jasmine scoffed at her past self.
