“The club owner is a buddy of mine. Back when I’d take clients there, he’d always make sure she was assigned to our table. But that kind of service isn’t my scene, so she mostly just hung around pouring drinks.

“I heard from my friend later that, thanks to Silas’ standing, she doesn’t really wait on guests directly anymore. These days, she mostly handles the music for the room. The only person she personally serves now is Silas. You could say she’s become his… ‘private companion.”

Jasmine took a second to let that sink in.

So Silas had a mistress tucked away at home, and now a “private companion” on the side too?

Ethan noticed her reaction and paused, giving her space.

After a moment, Jasmine snapped back to the present.

“If Felicity ever found out Silas had a private companion behind her back, she’d absolutely lose it.”

So after all that, it turned out Silas wasn’t completely devoted to his sister-in-law either.

When did this companion even come into the picture?

Ethan hesitated. “You…”

Jaśmine let out a light laugh.

“Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have any lingering feelings for that man whatsoever. Whether he’s got one lover or a whole string of women, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest.”

Her heart had closed off to Silas a long time ago.

So it really didn’t matter to her how many women he kept around.

“I was just caught off guard earlier. I always thought Silas was so committed to my sister-in-law that he’d never look at anyone else. How did he end up with a companion on the side?”

Ethan replied, “Maybe for someone like Mr. Vance, a wife, a mistress, and a private companion aren’t mutually exclusive.”

Jasmine couldn’t resist teasing him.

“What about you, Mr. Brooks? Do you think they’re not mutually exclusive either?”

Ethan turned his head, his gaze softening.

“For me, I’d want my wife, my lover, and my closest confidante to all be the same person.”

Jasmine felt her heartbeat pick up slightly.

She cleared her throat and looked away.

For some reason, she suddenly found it hard to meet his eyes.

Not wanting the moment to turn awkward, she quickly changed the subject.

“Since she’s Silas’ private companion, why would she help me out like that?”

Ethan didn’t have an answer either.

“That’s something only she could explain.”

Jasmine let it drop.

It wasn’t like she could just knock on the woman’s door and ask.

Silas didn’t get back to Kingsley Bay from Vivienne’s place until late.

Felicity was relieved to finally see him walk in and hurried over.

“Silas, you’re home. Why did you hang up on me earlier?”

When Felicity had called, Silas was in the middle of dinner with Vivienne-of course, he couldn’t answer.

“I was out with a client. Couldn’t take the call.”

That excuse usually worked like a charm.

But tonight, it didn’t seem to be landing.

Felicity was visibly annoyed.

“Silas, I even called Marcus. He said you didn’t have any meetings tonight. So what client dinner?”

Silas’ expression tightened.

“Why were you calling Marcus?”

He’d have to remind his assistant to be more careful about what he shared.

Felicity put on a pitiful tone.

“You weren’t answering my calls or texts. I was worried, so I had to check with your assistant.”

Silas was getting irritated. “You know he’s my assistant.”

Realizing he was upset, Felicity quickly switched to a softer, coaxing tone.

“I didn’t ask anything else, honestly. Just whether you had meetings. He said no, and I hung up right away.”

Silas pulled his hand back from where Felicity had pressed it against her chest and walked further inside.

“It was a last-minute client thing. I didn’t loop Marcus in, so of course he didn’t know.”

Before Felicity could say more, Silas added in a low voice, “I really don’t like you getting involved in my work like this.”

Felicity froze.

She’d heard those words before.
