Chapter 170 Feeling Trapped
Chapter 170 Feeling Trapped
Silas gently moved her aside and reached for his wallet to pull out a card.
He was about to hand it over when he suddenly hesitated and drew it back.

It was the same card he’d given Jasmine before-the one that had later mysteriously reappeared in his
room.
That woman truly had a backbone. She would not even keep the card.
Felicity’s hand lingered awkwardly in the air.
“Silas…?”
He slipped the card back into his wallet.
“I just remembered, this card cannot be used anymore. Go ahead and buy whatever you need, and I will reimburse you when you get back.”
That seemed to lift her spirits a little.
“Okay… thank you, Silas. Oh, before I forget—”
She tugged him toward the nursery.
“Sílas, today Grandma, your mom, and Chloe bought so many clothes and toys for our little boy. The room’s practically overflowing.”
He still cringed at the phrase our son, but held his tongue.
He suddenly realized that every time he came home now, everything he did was reactive, never by his own choosing. It was like being a bird locked in a cage, with no one caring how he felt. Every moment was
agony.
His wandering thoughts suddenly caught. Silas paused for a moment.
Those words… that woman had said something like that to him before. Back then, he had called her greedy and ungrateful, told her she did not know how fortunate she was.
So this was what it felt like.
Jasmine and Ethan hurried to the address Eleanor had given them. The closer they got, the more Jasmine’s heart raced beyond her control.
They pulled up in front of a farmhouse.
Jasmine knocked.

The door creaked open to reveal a little boy with small protruding canines peering out at them curiously
“Who are you?”
Jasmine bent down. “I am looking for someone named Anna Whitmore. Do you know her?”
The boy scratched his head, thinking.
Jasmine added gently, “A madam who seems… a little different from others.”
“Oh, I know now!” The little boy’s face lit up with sudden understanding. “You mean the mute grandmother! I know her, she is staying right here with us.”
Doesn’t talk?
Jasmine’s chest tightened.
The boy’s mother heard the voices and came over. “Come in. Someone called me and said someone would come to take her in the next couple of days. I did not expect you this soon.”
Jasmine stepped inside.
The house was sparsely furnished but clean.
The woman didn’t linger on small talk.
“She’s in the back room. I’ll take you.”
When they reached the curtain-covered doorway, Jasmine froze.
Ethan lowered his head slightly and spoke softly near her ear. “Go in, I believe the only force sustaining your mother’s will to live may be a deep, unconscious longing to see you again. This moment is not only yours to bear. It is what your mother has been waiting for as well.”
Jasmine took two deep breaths and lifted the curtain.
There sat a gentle-faced woman on a wooden stool.
Her expression was calm, almost ordinary, but her eyes were distant and vacant, fixed on nothing.
Streaks of gray ran through her hair, and weariness showed in her face, yet she carried a quiet, unshakeable grace.
Her features were fine and delicate-it was clear she’d been beautiful in her youth.
The woman took another look at Jasmine and could not help saying, “You two look so much alike.” Those words seemed to carry some kind of magic, for the woman who had been sitting there frozen like a statue actually turned around.
Jasmine approached with tears in her eyes. Her mouth opened and closed, and she forced the word out from deep in her throat. “Mom.”

For a second, a flicker of life returned to Anna’s gaze. Her eyes traveled slowly over Jasmine’s face, searching, as if looking for something long lost.
Jasmine reached eagerly for her hand.
“Mom, it’s me. Your real daughter. I’m…”
She caught herself.
