Chapter 184 The Defender
Chapter 184 The Defender
“Silas, you’ve got an awfully high opinion of yourself. Who do you think you are, really?”
Silas’ eyebrows drew together tightly.
“And who are you supposed to be, then?

“You don’t bring any real value to the Vance family. Felicity outshines you in that department-by a mile.
“The only reason you get to enjoy this lifestyle-the prestige, the luxury, the money-is that I allow it. You’re nothing to me on your own, but I can give you everything you’ve ever wanted. For that alone, Jasmine, you should be grateful.”
Silas grabbed Jasmine’s chin roughly, forcing her to meet his gaze.
“Wake up, Jasmine. If you walk away from me, you’ll regret it.”
Jasmine struggled to keep her composure, her words clipped.
“I won’t. Not ever.”
Silas’ eyes narrowed. He pinned her hands down and crushed his mouth toward hers.
Jasmine jerked her face away.
His lips landed on her cheek instead.
Even that brief contact made her skin crawl.
It turned out that when you truly despised someone, it became physical-every touch felt wrong.
She hated how close he was. She hated his hands on her. All she wanted was to be anywhere else.
Jasmine, you fool. If you hadn’t agreed to see him today, you wouldn’t have had to listen to his sickening words or
endure this.
She fought back with everything she had, pushing against his chest, twisting in his grip.
But she was no match for his strength.
She tried to scream, but Silas covered her mouth before she could make a sound.
For a wild moment, Jasmine thought about taking him down with her-just ending it all.
But then she remembered the baby.
Desperate, she sank her teeth hard into his ear.
Silas grunted in pain and pulled back.

Before he could react, a hand closed around the back of his neck and yanked him forcefully out of the car.
The moment Jasmine saw Caleb, the tension in her fists began to ease.
Silas was still off-balance when Caleb strode over and kicked him squarely in the side.
“You Vances really are all the same. A whole damn family of snakes. Not a decent one in the bunch-every last one of you is twisted.”
Silas bristled at the insult, his face flushing with anger.
“Caleb, don’t think that just because you’re some hotshot investor, I’ll keep taking this from you. I’ve shown you respect before, but don’t push your luck.”
Caleb cracked his knuckles casually.
“I don’t need any favors from you, Mr. Vance. Feel like going another round?”
Silas glared. “You think I’m scared of you?”
“Caleb.”
Jasmine straightened her blouse and stepped out of the car.
Caleb moved to stand in front of her, shielding her slightly.
“Don’t worry. I’ve got this. Step back-you don’t want this jerk’s blood on you. Bad luck, you know.”
Jasmine tugged at his sleeve.
“Just leave it. Take me home, please. I’m exhausted.”
Caleb glanced at her tired expression and softened.
“You got lucky this time. But if I ever catch you laying a hand on Jasmine again…”
He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping low.
“I’ll make sure you never get to use that thing between your legs again. Let’s see how you sneak around with your sister-in-law then.”
The words hit like a physical blow. Silas swung a fist toward Caleb’s face.
Caleb pulled Jasmine aside just in time, the punch grazing empty air.
“Oh, touched a nerve, did I? You that sensitive about her? Can’t stand anyone bad-mouthing your precious sister-in-law?”
“Caleb!” Silas shouted, his expression darkening. “Watch your mouth. Felicity has nothing to do with this. Leave her out of it.”

Jasmine let out a weary sigh.
“Silas, just stop. Have a little dignity.”
But Silas was too furious to back down.

“Looks like you’ve got someone in your corner now, so you’re feeling brave. Now I finally believe what everyone’s been saying-you two have had something going on for a while, haven’t you?”
That “everyone”-Jasmine didn’t need to guess who.
