Chapter 186 A Hidden Hand
In the end, Silas managed to force the words out between clenched teeth.
“Fine. We’ll sign the contract tomorrow.”

With that, he turned away, slid back into his car, and sped off down the street until he was out of sight
Jasmine stood there for a long moment, lost in thought.
Caleb nudged her lightly with his elbow, his hands stuffed into the pockets of his jeans.
“Hey, why the long face? Everything went our way, didn’t it?”
Jasmine sighed.
“I know you’re not really into the whole corporate world. You only stepped in to help me out. That’s a huge favor-I don’t even know how to repay you.”
Caleb slipped right back into his usual laidback tone.
“Easy. Just marry me.”
Jasmine shot him a look. “Could you be serious for once?”
Caleb held his straight face for a few seconds before letting it go.
“Look, don’t overthink it. For me, it’s an investment too. If the company turns a profit, I get my cut, right?”
“But still-”
“Come on, let’s drop it. Let’s talk business.”
Jasmine pulled her jacket tighter against the evening chill. “Business?”
“The AI Robotics Challenge is coming up,” Caleb said. “You planning to enter?”
A faint, tired smile touched her lips. “Lately, dealing with Silas has taken up all my energy. I haven’t had a moment to sit down and focus on R&D. Even if I started now, it’s probably too late.”
! “Don’t worry about that. You’d only need to jump in on the complex algorithms later on.”

Jasmine looked at him, a little surprised.
“You already have a team lined up?”
“Yeah.” Caleb nodded.
It didn’t take her long to connect the dots.
“Did Ethan ask you to tell me this?”

Caleb gave her a thumbs-up. “Smart guess.”
At the mention of Ethan’s name. Jasmine felt a flicker of awkwardness.
“Why didn’t he… tell me himself?”
Caleb’s smile turned knowing.
“Maybe because of that busted lip of his. You know, it looked pretty rough.”
Jasmine’s ears grew warm.
“How… how would I know? It’s not like I had anything to do with it—”
Caleb’s grin widened.

“How could you not know? It’s pretty obvious. I’m curious what went down-how’d he end up hurt like that all of a sudden?”
Jasmine pressed her lips together.
“I really don’t know.”
She quickly changed the subject.
“You want to come in for a bit?”
Caleb glanced toward a shadowy spot not far away.
“Nah, I’d better go check on a certain injured guy.”
The moon hung high in a calm night sky.
Ethan stood in the dimness, his expression reserved and unreadable. His eyes held a quiet intensity, like two stars that had fallen from the night.
Even wrapped in shadow, his tall, lean frame carried an unmistakable presence-graceful and striking.
Caleb walked over, hands still in his pockets.
“Why’d you make me play the hero saving the day? Now she’s going to think I’m the one helping her
Ethan’s gaze stayed fixed in the direction where Jasmine had disappeared.
“After what happened with the necklace last time, she already felt like she owed me. No way she would’ve accepted my help this time.”
So he’d let Caleb step in. By investing under the cover of buying shares, he could solve her immediate problem without her ever knowing.
“If you keep doing things this way, she won’t even realize you helped her at all.”

Ethan looked away.
“I never expect her to remember any favor I do for her.”
Caleb pushed down a strange feeling in his chest.
“What made you think of getting her into the competition?”

Ethan was quiet for a few seconds before answering, his voice low and steady, like a quiet stream running through a deep valley.
“The Al Robotics Challenge is the most influential international event in the field.
“She’s been kept hidden away for three years. Not many people know about her talent. If she stands out in this competition, she’ll gain visibility. It’ll help her career going forward.”
Caleb offered a faint smile.
“I don’t think it’s just about her career. What you really want is for Silas to see with his own eyes that the person he threw away like trash is the computer genius he’s been searching for-someone he could never reach.”
Ethan spoke softly, his words almost like a whisper.
“It’s time for her to return to where she truly belongs.”
By the time Silas arrived at Eclipse Lounge, Vivienne’s injuries had already been treated.
The cut was at the corner of her mouth-clearly from a hard blow.
Silas glanced at it. It was hard to tell how much he actually cared; if anything, he seemed more angry than concerned.
