“Thank you, Mrs. Gable,” Jasmine said, clutching her chest.

Mrs. Gable leaned in. “Ma’am, I don’t understand why you don’t tell Silas. If he knew, he’d be thrilled. Your life here would be so much easier.”
“Easier because of a baby?” Jasmine wiped her mouth. “Silas thinks far too highly of himself.”
Mrs. Gable wanted to say more but decided against it.
“I’ve watched what you’ve been through these past three years. So, whatever you decide, I’m behind you.
“I just hope you don’t do anything impulsive, and please, don’t neglect your own health.”
Jasmine felt a warmth in her heart and took Mrs. Gable’s hand. “Thank you so much.”
She was grateful that for three years, Mrs. Gable hadn’t joined the others in bullying her or treating her like a second-class citizen.
Instead, she had treated her like the true mistress of the house,
After lunch, Jasmine took a nap.
It was the best sleep she’d had in a long time; she didn’t wake up until nearly three.
She planned to deliver the necklace to the jewelry store first, then head to the reunion.
After getting ready, she picked out a vintage-style long dress.
The rhinestones at the neckline made her skin look even more delicate and pale. Her sophisticated aura, combined with her stunning face, made her look incredibly striking and aristocratic.
As she opened her door, Silas was standing there with his hand raised as if about to knock.
Jasmine shot him a look but didn’t say a word.
Silas looked her up and down, his eyes widening with surprise.
He had always known Jasmine was beautiful.
But he had forgotten just how stunningly elegant and high-class she could be.

“Are you… going out?”
“Yes,” Jasmine replied simply.
“Where?”
“A college reunion.”
Silas was taken aback. “I thought you hated those kinds of gatherings.”
Jasmine looked him in the eye. “It’s not that I hated them; I just thought they were unnecessary.”
“And now they’re necessary?”
“It’s better than staying home and being miserable,” she countered.
Silas was silent for a moment.
“Chloe already knelt in the courtyard. What else do you want?”

“I don’t ‘want’ anything,” Jasmine said. “I just want to go to a reunion. Is that a problem?”
Silas’s gaze fell on her elegant collarbone.
There was a small red mole there, making her already alluring collarbone even more captivating.
“You’re wearing that?”
Jasmine brushed a stray hair from her face. “What’s wrong with it? Everything important is covered. Did you expect me to go out in a headscarf?”
“Where is the reunion?”
“At the Astoria Hotel. If you’re worried, Silas, feel free to send a tail. I don’t mind.”
Silas’s dark eyes shifted, as if he were deep in thought. After a moment, he spoke.
“I’ll pick you up when it’s over.”
Jasmine thought she’d misheard. “You’re picking me up?”
“If I have time.”

Jasmine went silent.
Silas finally noticed the paper bag in Jasmine’s hand.
“What’s in the bag?”
Jasmine was getting annoyed.
Since when did this man care about her schedule?

Luckily, she’d put the jewelry box inside a larger box and tucked it into a bag from a local specialty shop.
She didn’t want Silas to know what it was.
“Just some local gifts for my classmates. It’s been a while, so I thought I’d bring them something from Rivercrest.”
Silas didn’t suspect a thing.
“About what you said this morning… about the divorce…”
Jasmine froze for a second, waiting for him to continue.
“I stayed in Felicity’s room last night because Leo wasn’t feeling well. He was fussy, and the only way he’d calm down was if I held him.”
Jasmine raised an eyebrow and offered a faint smile. “How sweet. A father and son connection.”
Silas was too caught up in his explanation to catch the jab. “So it was strictly about the child Don’t overthink things.”
Jasmine noticed something was off.
Silas was actually explaining himself to her. That was a first.
“Why are you suddenly telling me this?”
“I don’t want you to have the wrong idea.”
Jasmine sneered inwardly.
