Chapter 20 Facing the Debt Collectors

Chapter 20 Facing the Debt Collectors

“I have no intention of divorcing you,” Silas said.

Jasmine wasn’t moved by the statement.

If anything, it felt like a burden.

She tested the waters carefully. “If we divorced, wouldn’t that be better for you? You could marry Felicity and have your perfect little family of three.”

Silas’s face darkened instantly.

“What are you saying! A family of three? How could I possibly marry Felicity? How could I ever face Julian if I did that!”

Jasmine wanted to laugh.

Silas’s logic was incredibly contradictory.

He thought marrying Felicity would be a betrayal to Julian.

But sleeping with her and having a child with her wasn’t a betrayal?

Apparently, a man can justify anything if he talks enough.

Jasmine felt a sudden wave of disgust and the words slipped out.

“If you don’t marry her, can you really stand having your own son call you ‘Uncle’ for the rest of his life?”

Silas was momentarily stunned.

Jasmine’s words had hit him right where it hurt.

He had thought about this a thousand times.

Leo was his son, yet he would never hear the boy call him “Daddy”…

Jasmine watched Silas’s face, enjoying the way his expression shifted several times in just a few seconds.

She really wanted to hear how he would answer.

But Silas simply avoided the question.

“Jasmine, you’ve been through a lot today, but I’ll make it up to you.”

That phrase again!

Jasmine gave him a fake smile and said pointedly, “How? You won’t even give me the apartment you promised.”

Silas was speechless for a long time.

“I can talk to Felicity again.”

Jasmine really wanted to slap him.

Silas had clearly forgotten that she, Jasmine, was his legal wife.

A wife asks her husband for something, and he has to consult his mistress?

What a sick joke!

“Don’t drink too much.”

He called out a concerned warning as she walked away.

Jasmine didn’t look back.

Lately delivered concern couldn’t warm a heart that had already turned to ice.

What was the point of offering an umbrella after the rain had already stopped?

Mrs. Gable walked by with a mop and caught Silas watching Jasmine leave.

“Sigh. Our Young Madam is truly a goddess. If my useless son could marry a woman even half as talented as her, I’d be at the temple every day thanking the heavens.”

Silas pulled his gaze away and frowned. “Mrs. Gable, you talk too much.”

“Oh dear, Sir. Are you going to kick me out too?”

Silas didn’t respond.

Silas had spent more time with Mrs. Gable than with his own mother, Victoria.

To him, she was more than just a servant.

Silas suddenly realized that habit was a terrifying thing.

He had become so accustomed to Jasmine’s presence.

The sudden thought of them one day going their separate ways left him feeling strangely hollow.

Jasmine delivered the necklace to the jewelry store.

Oddly enough, the owner didn’t even open the box before putting it away.

Jasmine was taken aback. “You aren’t even going to check it?”

The owner hesitated for a second. “No need. You clearly aren’t the type of person to pull a scam, Miss.”

Jasmine felt like something was off, but she couldn’t find any evidence of a trick.

She decided to let it go; after all, she already had the money.

Who cared.

With her business finished, Jasmine was about to call Sierra.

Suddenly, Eleanor Thorne called.

“Jasmine! Get home right now! Something’s happened to your father!”

Before Jasmine could ask for details, the call was cut off.

Jasmine’s heart skipped a beat, and she raced home immediately.

The gates were closed, and everything seemed quiet.

But when she pushed the door open, she was horrified.
