“Silas!” Chloe’s cheeks flushed with irritation. “You have no idea what she’s really like. Even while you two were together, she was already seeing other guys behind your back!”

Caleb’s smile vanished completely.

“Ms. Vance, you come from a good family. How is it that you express yourself like someone with no class or decency? Didn’t anyone ever teach you how to speak respectfully?”

His tone was sharp-borderline rude.

But admittedly satisfying to hear.

Silas’ expression shifted several times in silence.

Chloe had stepped out of line first, yet Caleb’s words were excessively harsh. For a moment, Silas couldn’t decide whom to reprimand.

Felicity jumped in to smooth things over.

“Alright, Chloe. Even though your brother and Jasmine are going through a divorce, she was still part of the family once. At least think about the history you all share. Let’s just calm down, okay?”

With that, she gently guided Chloe into a chair.

“Here-check out the menu. Order anything you like.”

But Chloe had lost her appetite. Just remembering last night’s scene made her blood boil.

She tossed the menu onto the floor.

“Jasmine! Don’t test me!”

Jasmine sighed softly. “What am I pushing you to do?”

“Last night, you were obviously with-you-”

She couldn’t bring herself to say the name “Ethan.”

Silas pressed, “With who? Finish your sentence.”

Chloe bit her lip. “Some guy!”

“What guy?”

“I don’t know! I didn’t recognize him!”

Caleb stood up abruptly.

“Mr. Vance, I don’t think this dinner is going to work out today. Enjoy the rest of your meal. Jasmine and 3

will take off.”

Before Silas could respond, Caleb took Jasmine’s hand and they walked out briskly.

Silas immediately lost all interest in eating.

He had only wanted to stretch this dinner a little longer-to spend a bit more time around Jasmine.

After what happened yesterday, he knew it would be hard to get her to meet him alone again.

Now that she was gone, a hollow feeling settled in his chest.

Felicity started to say something, but he cut her off.

“Chloe, you’re not a kid anymore. You should start thinking about settling down.”

Maybe it was time she got married-if only to keep her from stirring up more drama.

Chloe’s eyes lit up at that.

“Okay, then help me propose to the Brook family.”

Silas’ face tightened.

“Chloe, don’t even dream about it.

“Not only is he not a good fit for our family, but even if he were, I would never agree to you being with

him.”

Chloe was on the verge of tears.

“Why? Because he’s your competitor?”

“Exactly. You know how many of our key tech people he’s poached recently. All those underhanded moves -it’s like he’s targeting Nexora Tech on purpose, trying to pick a fight.

“Competition is normal in business. If he recruited our staff, that’s on our management. People leave because they’re unhappy here. What’s that got to do with him?”

Chloe was so caught up in her own argument that she didn’t notice Silas’ expression darkening dangerously.

Felicity tugged at Chloe’s sleeve to warn her, but Chloe shook her off.

“You’re just insecure because you think he’s better than you. That’s why you won’t let me be with him. You’re scared that if I’m with him, you’ll look small next to him.”

“Slap!”

A sharp crack echoed as his hand met her cheek.

Felicity gasped, covering her mouth.

This was his favorite sister-how could he…?

Chloe stood stunned, her hand pressed to her face.

Silas didn’t regret it, nor did he soften. His voice was cold and firm.
