Chapter 21 Standing Up to Debt Collectors
Chapter 21 Standing Up to Debt Collectors
In Arthur Thorne’s mind, the company’s current situation was far from a dead end.
He still had the resort and the Grand Manor as safety nets.
In a worst-case scenario, he would have sold both properties without hesitation.
However, Eleanor’s face was now a mask of pure guilt.
Jasmine understood the look instantly.
Just as she was about to speak, Eleanor rushed to justify herself.

“I was backed into a corner! Your father kept talking about selling the resort and the manor. If he sold those, he’d lose his soul. Jasmine, could you really stand to see him waste away like a shell of a man for the rest of his life?”
At this point, blame was useless.
Jasmine’s mind went straight to the $600 million Eleanor had asked for earlier.
“Don’t tell me… that $600 million came from these loan sharks?”
Eleanor’s eyes darted away. “Well… yes.”
Jasmine clenched her fists and shut her eyes.
She felt a violent urge to hit something.
Regardless of her flaws, Eleanor had raised her.
And Arthur truly loved Jasmine with a father’s heart.
So Jasmine had never intended to just sit by and do nothing.
The reason she didn’t reveal the source of her wealth and insisted on a loan agreement was to prevent Eleanor from seeing her as a bottomless ATM.
If she didn’t set boundaries, Jasmine would be stuck filling Eleanor’s bottomless pits forever.
She had no desire to live the rest of her life as a human tool.
Even less as a victim of moral kidnapping.

“Enough talk! Pay up or we aren’t leaving!”
The leader of the thugs barked impatiently.

Jasmine pulled herself back to reality and spoke in a calm, steady voice. “Sir, can you give us two more days? I promise you’ll get every cent.”
The man looked her up and down. “You? Pay us? If your old man can’t afford it, how can a little thing like you? What, you gonna pay us in ‘favors’?”
The room erupted into crude laughter.
“Even if she did, she ain’t worth six hundred million, hahaha.”
“You animals!” Arthur gasped, struggling for air. “How dare you insult my daughter! You’re nothing but thugs!”
The leader shot Jasmine a lecherous look but kept his words aimed at Arthur.
“Yeah, we’re thugs. So what? We get paid to make problems go away. The great Chairman Thorne is a deadbeat who won’t pay his debts. That’s even more shameful than being a thug.”
Arthur could barely catch his breath. “You… you…”
“Mother!” Jasmine cut him off. “Take Dad to his room. I’ll handle this.”
Eleanor showed a rare spark of concern.
“Be careful.”
“I will.”
Arthur refused to leave. “Jasmine, go home. This isn’t your problem. I’ll deal with it.”
Jasmine offered a small smile. “Dad, you raised me. It’s my turn to do something for you. Just give me this one chance, okay?”
Looking into his daughter’s resolute, fearless eyes, Arthur eventually nodded.
Jasmine didn’t speak until she saw Arthur disappear into his room.
“Which one of you gave my father that bruise on his forehead?”
The leader sat down heavily on the sofa and spat on the floor.

“He tried to play hero just now. I gave him a little nudge, and he didn’t have the balance to stay up. He hit the corner of the table. Can’t blame me for that.”
Jasmine stepped closer, looking down at him. “So, it was you?”
The man unwrapped a piece of gum and popped it in his mouth, clearly not intimidated by the fragile-looking woman.
“If that’s how you want to see it, sure.”
“Fine.”
Before the man could process what “fine” meant, a sharp slap landed squarely on his face.
The blow left him completely dazed.
His lackeys looked at each other in shock; no one had expected Jasmine to strike.
The sheer audacity of it left them speechless…
The man stood up abruptly, rubbing his cheek, and a dark grin spread across his face.
As his smile vanished, he raised his massive hand.
