Chapter 204 A Sister’s Question
Chapter 204 A Sister’s Question
Chloe was in so much pain that she let out a sharp cry, followed soon after by loud, uncontrollable sobbing.
Jasmine quickly pulled Añna back-not out of concern for Chloe, but to protect her mother from getting caught in the fray.
Chloe hurried away, but not without throwing one last threat over her shoulder.
“You’ll regret this!”
Jasmine felt a rush of emotion. She reached for her mother’s hands.
“Mom, did you remember something just now?”
But Anna gently pulled away and instead moved closer to Margaret, seeking comfort.
Over the past few days, Margaret had been looking after Anna, and the two had grown quite attached.
“See?” Margaret said softly. “Even though your mother doesn’t recall much, she still knows right from wrong when it matters. Her mind isn’t lost-just hidden. With time, she may very well improve.”
Jasmine smoothed her mother’s shirt and nodded.
She hoped so.
But even if her mother never fully recovered, Jasmine was prepared to care for her and stay by her side.
Having her there was enough.
That brief clash with Chloe soon faded from their minds.
Truth be told, none of them dwelled on it.
Taking someone like Chloe seriously would only mean stooping to her level.
Besides, they were moving today-soon they wouldn’t have to deal with her at all.
The moving truck arrived right on schedule.
Once everything was loaded, Caleb got into Ethan’s car, while Sierra slid into the passenger seat of Jasmine’s.
Margaret and Anna settled in the back, and before long, both were asleep, worn out from the morning’s
events.
The drive was unusually quiet.
Sierra, who was usually full of stories and jokes, didn’t say a word the whole way.

Chapter 204 A Sister’s Question
The silence felt almost strange.
Jasmine wondered if she was still upset about what happened with Chloe.

“Hey,” Jasmine said gently, “thanks for having my back earlier. But don’t let her get under your skin, okay? When you go quiet like this, it worries me.”
Sierra snapped out of her thoughts.
“Her? Please. I’m not wasting another second on her. She’s like bad traffic-annoying in the moment, but you move on and forget. It’s not that.”
“Then what is it?”
“What do you mean?”
“You haven’t said a thing this whole ride. Are you tired from packing?”
“Come on, Caleb and Mr. Brooks did most of the heavy lifting. I barely carried a thing.”
“So something’s on your mind.”
“Why would you say that?”
Jasmine gave her a knowing look.
“You’ve got that look. Like you’re thinking hard but don’t want to talk about it.”
Sierra stared out the window for a moment.
“It’s nothing. Want me to make something up so you feel better?”
As soon as she said it, she seemed to regret it.
“Sorry, that came out wrong.”
Jasmine smiled softly.
“It’s okay.”
She didn’t press further. If Sierra didn’t want to share, that was fine.
After a long stretch of silence, Sierra finally spoke again.
“Jasmine… what do you think of Ethan?”
Jasmine glanced over, surprised.
“Where’s that coming from?”
“No reason. Just wondering.”

Chapter 204 A Sister’s Question
Jasmine thought for a moment.
“I guess you could say… he’s kind of like a role model to me.”
“A role model?”

“Yeah. You know me-I admire people who are really good at what they do. People who have their life together. He’s one of those.”
“But what about… in a romantic way?”
Jasmine blinked.
“Romantic? What do you mean?”
“Do you ever think about him like that?”
Something in Sierra’s tone felt unusual.
“Sierra, what are you really asking me?”
Sierra kept her eyes ahead. “I just mean… he’s always going out of his way to help you. Doesn’t that ever make you feel… something more?”
“No,” Jasmine answered without hesitation.
“Really no? Or are you just saying that?”
It almost sounded like an interrogation.
Jasmine paused briefly before responding.
“We’re friends with similar interests. And Ethan’s engaged. I would never see him that way.”
Through the window, Sierra watched the passing scenery-trees growing bare, the late autumn landscape fading into winter grays.
“A guy like him… it wouldn’t be strange if you did,” she said quietly.
Jasmine frowned slightly.
“Sierra, you’re acting kind of off today. I can tell.”
A long, quiet period passed between them before Sierra turned in her seat.
“Can I ask you something, Jas?”
“Sure. Anything.”
