The group hurried back in a panic.
Margaret was waiting downstairs, pacing frantically in circles.

When she spotted their car, she rushed over as fast as she could, tears and mucus streaking her face, her. voice already raw from shouting.
Throughout everything, it never crossed Jasmine’s mind to blame Margaret.
She knew how much her mother meant to Jasmine, and Margaret had always taken care of Anna better than she did herself.
This couldn’t have been intentional.
Even though Jasmine was a bundle of nerves herself, seeing Margaret so distraught made her push aside her own fear. She reached out to comfort her.
“Margaret, please try to calm down first. Take a breath and tell us what happened.”
Margaret’s eyes were swollen and red.
“After you left, Ma’am paced around the house for a long time. I thought maybe she wasn’t used to the new place yet, so I stayed with her the whole time.
“Later, she got tired from walking, had a light snack, and went back to her room.
“I walked her to her bedroom myself. I saw her climb into bed with my own eyes. So I thought it’d be fine to step out and tidy up the kitchen.
“But when I finished cleaning and went back to check on her… she was gone.
“Jasmine,” Margaret choked out, guilt written all over her face, “my mind’s not what it used to be. I’m so, so sorry.”
Jasmine softened her tone.
“Margaret, you didn’t do anything wrong. Please don’t apologize. And I don’t believe my mother just vanished without reason.”
Sierra stepped in, trying to sound reassuring.
“Yeah, Margaret, don’t worry. We’ll start looking right now. I’m sure we’ll find her soon.”
Ethan remained steady, his voice calm.
“Caleb, you and Sierra go to the building management and pull the security footage. See which way Anna headed.
“Margaret, please go back inside and wait. If Anna returns, call us immediately.

Chapter 207 A Traffic Accident
“Jasmine and I will search the nearby area first. Everyone, keep your phones on.”
Half an hour later, they had turned up nothing.
Jasmine’s eyelid began twitching uncontrollably. A cold sense of dread crept into her chest.
“Ethan, what if my mother…”
He placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Don’t say it… She’ll be okay…”
But even he didn’t sound fully convinced.
Caleb returned with an update.
“The last camera caught Anna walking out of the complex on her own.”
Walking out of the complex meant she’d left the range of the property’s security cameras.
Only by involving the police could they access street surveillance footage.
Jasmine immediately reached for her phone to call 911.
But before she could dial, her phone rang-it was the local police station.
“Hello, is this Jasmine?”
The dread inside her deepened. She forced herself to sound steady. “Yes, speaking.”

“Your mother was involved in a traffic incident. She’s been taken to Memorial Central Hospital. Please come right away.”
The car raced across town, Ethan behind the wheel, nearly running a red light in the process.
He knew how terrified and shaken Jasmine was, but no words of comfort came to him.
What could he even say?
The silence in the car was heavy, almost suffocating.
Sierra felt awful too.
She’d thought everything was finally falling into place. Jasmine had reunited with her birth mother and cut ties with all the chaos and toxic people from before.
Next week, Jasmine was supposed to start her new job at Ethan’s firm.
Everything seemed to be moving toward something brighter.
And then this happened…

Sierra couldn’t help but feel like life was toying with them. They were like ants in the grip of fate- powerless, with no real say in what came their way.
All they could do was brace themselves and take whatever came.
Sierra finally broke the silence, her voice gentle.
“Jasmine, I really believe Anna will pull through. She’s been through so much already… She’s a fighter.”
Caleb wanted to add something too, but he knew empty comforts wouldn’t help now.
He gave Sierra’s arm a soft squeeze, signaling her to let it be.
When they reached the hospital, Jasmine heard the overhead speaker repeatedly calling a code blue,
Her legs went weak with fear.
Sierra paled beside her.
“That’s not for Anna, right… Caleb, hold me up-I can barely stand.”
Caleb slipped an arm around her shoulders, unusually gentle.
“Don’t jump to conclusions. Let’s go check first.”
Outside the ER, three police officers stood waiting.
Jasmine steadied her breathing and walked quickly toward them.
“Hello, I’m Anna’s daughter.”
One of the officers checked his notepad.
