Chapter 214 The Truth Revealed

Chapter 214 The Truth Revealed

Silas held her gaze, not letting her look away.

“So you’re not avoiding me after all?”

Jasmine hated the expression in his eyes right then.

When Silas turned on his charm, he could look at anyone like they were the love of his life

The irony was, during their three-year marriage, the way he looked at her had never come close to the warmth he’d show a pet.

Now that they were divorced, suddenly he was all soft and tender.

“The woman who was hit and killed… she was my birth mother.”

Silas nodded slowly. “I know. Chloe told me.”

A sharp pang shot through Jasmine’s chest.

“Back then, Eleanor drove my mother out of her mind just to take me away from her.”

Silas looked genuinely surprised. “She did that? You never said anything.”

Bringing this up now felt like reopening a half-healed wound.

“I only found out recently myself. After my father died, he left the Thornes fortune to me in his will.”

She took a shaky breath. “Eleanor used my mother against me to get the estate… and I agreed.”

Silas’ eyes narrowed.

“She really doesn’t care about family ties at all, does she?”

Jasmine let out a hollow laugh. “Family ties? What she really loved was everything the Thornes owned. She was willing to kill my father for that estate.”

Her voice dropped. “Silas…”

She sighed heavily. “I owe you an apology.”

He stepped closer, studying her troubled eyes. An unexpected flicker of pity stirred in him.

“Why would you need to apologize to me?”

Jasmine hesitated.

She wasn’t sure if what she was doing was right or wrong anymore.

All she knew was she had to get to the truth, whatever it took.

“For a long time, I blamed you for my father’s death. There were moments… I really hated you for it.”

She met his gaze. “But after finding out it was Eleanor, I felt like I’d wronged you.”

Silas took her hand in his.

The familiar feel of her skin sent a ripple of satisfaction through him-something he hadn’t felt in

months.

“It’s enough that you know it wasn’t me. You don’t owe me any apology, Jasmine. You know..”

He brushed his thumb slowly over her knuckles.

“The reason I got so angry that day, when you accused me… was because I was scared. Scared you’d hate me because of a misunderstanding.”

His voice softened. “Once you started hating me, you’d just drift further away. And I can’t stand it when you pull away from me.”

Not content with just holding her hand, he drew her gently toward him.

“Even though we’re divorced, I still want you close.”

He paused, as if weighing his words.

“Jasmine, I’ve realized something… I don’t feel right when you’re not around. Tell me, does that mean I’m falling for you?”

Jasmine’s expression didn’t change.

Love?

That had to be the biggest joke she’d ever heard.

And the most insulting one, too.

He’d torn her apart, left her scarred and bruised, and now he wanted to talk about love?

It was almost laughable.

But as revolted as she felt, she held herself still and didn’t push him away.

“I told you before. You’re just not used to being alone. It’ll pass.”

“No.” Silas’ hand moved to her back, stroking lightly. “It won’t pass. This isn’t about getting used to anything.

“Jasmine, can you promise me something? Even if we’re divorced… let’s not live apart. Okay?

“If you don’t like this apartment, I’ll buy you a new house. Whenever I have time, I’ll come stay with you.

Chapter 214 The Truth Revealed

“Everything I failed to give you before… I’ll make it up to you, little by little.”

Jasinine’s arms hung limp at her sides. Her face was blank, but inside, her stomach was churning

He wanted her to be his kept woman.

No-not even that. More like his side piece.

She’d almost forgotten: Silas still had his “dear friend” somewhere in the picture.

Steadying herself, she guided the conversation back to where she needed it.

“I waited over twenty years to meet my birth mother. I used to lie awake imagining what she’d be like-the woman who brought me into this world.”

Her voice grew thin. “I never actually believed I’d get to see her.

“You know… when I finally saw her face, all the anger and the pain and the hurt just… vanished. Everything I’d been through… suddenly felt worth it.”

Jasmine’s voice began to crack.

Silas tightened his hold, restless at the shift in her tone. “Jasmine, from now on, you have me—”

“Silas.”

This time, the ache in her chest was real.

“You can’t replace a mother. Not you, not anyone.

“You have no idea how much that word means to me.

“I thought… I thought fate was finally cutting me some slack. I thought it was giving my mother back to me. That from then on, we could live together, properly, like a real family. I really believed…”
