Chapter 215 The Knife

Chapter 215 The Knife

Silas shoved Jasmine aside, his expression shifting from confusion to cold realization.

“You were setting me up to talk?”

Jasmine wiped her cheeks dry, her eyes turning hard.

“So my instincts were right. It was Chloe all along.”

Any trace of softness disappeared from Silas’ face.

“I underestimated you, Jasmine. You really know how to put on a show.

“But what does it matter?” he added, his voice steady. “Nothing I just said proves anything.”

Jasmine let out a bitter laugh.

Then she raised her hand and slapped him across the face-hard.

“Silas! What kind of person are you? Is a human life really that meaningless to you?”

Silas ran his tongue over his lip, tasting iron.

Jasmine grabbed his collar with both hands, her knuckles white.

“Your sister is a murderer, and you’re protecting her. That makes you an accessory. Your whole family- you’re all monsters. Monsters who can kill without a second thought!”

Her eyes were red-rimmed, anger and grief swelling inside her until she couldn’t hold it in anymore.

Silas pried her hands away and pushed her back.

“Jasmine, I know you’re hurting. But you can’t just pin this on Chloe and my family. Your mother’s death had nothing to do with her.”

Jasmine caught herself against the cabinet behind her.

“You think I expected you to admit it? That wasn’t even the point today. I just needed to know if I was right.”

She met his gaze, unblinking. “I’m not letting this go, Silas. I’ll find the evidence. I’ll make your precious sister face a judge. I’ll see her behind bars.”

Silas didn’t look worried in the least.

“Go ahead. Try.”

Jasmine clenched her jaw, wishing her stare could burn right through him.

They stood like that for a long moment, tension thick between them.

Chapter 215 The Knife

Then, slowly, the anger in Silas’ eyes faded-replaced by something like pity.

Seeing her like this, worn down and broken, he found he couldn’t stay mad.

He stepped closer and cupped her cheek with one hand.

“Let’s just end this here. No matter what you do, the facts won’t change. Why put yourself through all this?”

As soon as the words left his mouth, Silas hissed sharply in pain.

A clean cut had opened on the back of his hand, blood already welling to the surface.

He stared, stunned, at the small paring knife in Jasmine’s grip. It hadn’t even occurred to him she migh use it on him.

Seeing the blood, Jasmine herself seemed startled.

For a few seconds, neither of them moved.

Then Silas lifted his uninjured hand, pointing at her face for a long while before finally grinding out, “If I didn’t remember we were once married, you’d be in real trouble for this.”

With that, he turned and left.

The moment the door shut, Jasmine’s legs gave out and she sank to the floor.

Everything went quiet.

So quiet she could almost hear her own heartbeat.

Her chest ached, her whole body hurt-it felt like her heart was being ripped in two.

She didn’t understand how any of this had happened.

Curled on the floor like a discarded puppet, she buried her face in her arms.

What started as muffled sobs broke into full, wrenching cries.

When they’d buried her mother, she hadn’t shed a single tear.

Back then, she thought it was because they weren’t close-that the bond just wasn’t deep enough to cry

over.

Now she knew the truth: her heart had simply gone numb.

Lost in the haze of her tears, she barely registered someone entering the room.

A familiar voice came from above her-only this time, it wasn’t gentle.

If anything, it carried a sharp edge of anger.

Chapter 215 The Knife

“So this is how you handle things?”

Jasmine stopped crying but couldn’t bring herself to look up.

She knew how reckless she’d been.

Ethan crouched down in front of her, his expression cool.

“Well?”

Jasmine bit her lip, too ashamed to reply.

Ethan let out a low sigh.

“Get up.”

It took her a moment, but she finally pushed herself up.

Exhausted from a sleepless night, she was pale and unsteady.

As she rose, the room spun, and she nearly stumbled.

Ethan’s hand shot out, wrapping around her wrist to steady her.

Their eyes met, and Jasmine felt humiliation wash over her.

“I couldn’t think of another way…”
