Chapter 219 Apology and New Start

Chapter 219 Apology and New Start

“Hello. I’m here to see Mr. Brooks.”

“Mr. Brooks is currently in a meeting. It might be a little wait.”

“That’s fine. I’ll just wait for him in his office. Please don’t let me interrupt your work.”

“Of course.”

An hour later, Ethan returned from his meeting.

Lauren approached him promptly. “Mr. Brooks, Ms. Thorne is here. Since you mentioned she could go straight into your office whenever she visits, she’s waiting inside.”

Ethan paused. “How long has she been here?”

“About an hour.”

“Alright.”

He pushed open his office door and glanced around, but Jasmine wasn’t there.

Had she grown tired of waiting and left?

Ethan stepped back toward Lauren’s desk, his tone dropping slightly.

“Did she leave?”

“No, sir,” Lauren replied quickly. “I’ve been at my desk the whole time-I didn’t see her go.”

“Then where-”

“Ethan.”

Her voice was soft, clear.

Ethan turned, suppressing the slight upturn at the corner of his mouth.

“You should’ve called before coming.”

“I did. You didn’t answer.”

“I was in a meeting-my phone was in here.”

“Right.”

“Let’s talk inside.”

“Okay.”

Lauren interjected politely, “Mr. Brooks, shall I bring in some refreshments?”

Ethan glanced at Jasmine.

“No, thank you,” she said.

They entered the office and settled on the sofa. For a moment, neither spoke.

“You-”

“I-”

They began at the same time, leaving a brief, awkward silence.

Ethan nodded. “You first.”

Jasmine pulled a folded document from her bag-the final divorce decree.

“It’s official now. Silas and I are divorced.”

Ethan skimmed the paper.

“Good.”

“And also…” Jasmine shifted, feeling unexpectedly uneasy.

It was the first time she’d struggled so much just to apologize.

“I came to say I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have snapped at you the other day, or said those things.”

Ethan responded calmly, “You weren’t wrong. My overinvolvement in your affairs did make you uncomfortable.”

Jasmine was taken aback.

“That’s not what I meant…”

Just like before, Ethan reached for a cushion.

“Here-this will help you sit more comfortably.”

He placed it supportively behind her lower back.

A warm feeling spread through Jasmine’s chest. She met his gaze sincerely.

“I wasn’t criticizing you for stepping in. I really am grateful-for everything you’ve done. It’s just that. whenever something happens, I feel helpless. I always need you-or someone-to come fix things for me.

“It makes me feel inadequate. Like I’m just a burden.”

Ethan sat upright, his expression steady.

“What I’d prefer to hear is what you plan to do next.”

Jasmine paused, then gathered her resolve.

“The third thing is-I’m reporting for work. Starting today, I want to officially join Zenith Tech, I want to contribute, to work alongside everyone here.

“I also intend to compete in this year’s AI Robotics Challenge. I want to make a name for myself in computer science-to become the person I’m meant to be.

“I want to stand on my own abilities, so the people who’ve looked down on me won’t dare/underestimate me again. And I want to clear my mother’s name.”

Finally, the man’s lips curved into a faint, charming smile.

“Alright then. Let’s see if the old Storm still has it in her.”

Seeing his smile, Jasmine felt a subtle flutter in her chest.

“So… you’re not upset with me anymore?”

Ethan’s smile softened. “I was never upset with you.”

Only then did the tension in Jasmine’s heart begin to ease.

She’d rehearsed countless apologies on her way over, but once face-to-face, her words had failed her.

“You looked so serious when you saw me earlier-I thought you were going to ask me to leave.”

Ethan’s eyes warmed.

“Asking you to leave would be Zenith Tech’s loss. Our future needs you.”

Jasmine allowed herself a genuine smile.

“You make it sound like I’m some kind of prodigy. I’m nowhere near your league.”

Ethan rose and extended his hand.

“Welcome to Zenith Tech.”

Jasmine shook it firmly. “Looking forward to working with you.”

His palm was warm, solid-a comforting touch.

After a moment, Ethan released her hand.

“Would you like a tour?”

“I’d love one,” Jasmine replied.
