Sierra was genuinely thrilled.

“Looks like we’ll finally get to work together from now on. Our computer genius here is gonna have to take good care of me.”

Jasmine grinned. “And I’ll be counting on you to watch my back too.”

Ethan showed Jasmine around the company.

No one seemed surprised by her arrival, and nobody was peeking over their monitors out of curiosity.

Everyone was focused on their own tasks-the atmosphere was calm and relaxed.

It felt like a really pleasant place to work.

“Let me take you to your office,” Ethan said.

Jasmine looked surprised. “Won’t my desk be with Sierra and the team?”

“No,” Ethan replied. “You’ve got your own private office.”

He pushed open a door to reveal a small but tidy personal workspace.

On the table sat a small arrangement of fiery red euonymus, its bold foliage lending a warm burst of color to the room.

“I know you prefer a quiet, private spot when you’re coding-somewhere you won’t be interrupted.” Ethan explained. “So I reserved this office for you.

“If it feels too cramped, I can show you a larger one.”

Jasmine stepped inside and looked around. She really liked what she saw.

“It’s not too small at all. Anything bigger would just feel empty. This is perfect.”

“Good.”

Then something clicked for her.

“You said ‘reserved’-wasn’t this office set up ahead of time?”

“I arranged it back when I first invited you to join Zenith Tech.”

Jasmine’s eyes sparkled playfully.

“You were that confident I’d say yes?”

A faint smile tugged at Ethan’s lips.

“Let’s call it a gut feeling.”

They shared a warm, knowing smile.

“Should I sign the contract today?” Jasmine asked.

“Tomorrow’s fine,” Ethan said. “Head home for now. I bet Margaret’s waiting for you, and you’ll want to share the good news about the divorce.”

Something stirred in Jasmine’s heart. “You truly live up to being the idol I look up to. You are just too clever, always able to guess what I am thinking.”

Ethan smiled without replying.

Knowing what she was thinking wasn’t about being perceptive.

It was because…

Then Jasmine’s expression softened slightly.

“About Margaret, though…”

Ethan nodded gently. “She won’t get over this quickly. On the surface, she might seem okay, but she’ll carry that guilt for a long time.”

Jasmine sighed. “I’ve told her again and again that what happened to my mom wasn’t her fault.”

“Give her time,” Ethan said. “She’s a kind-hearted woman.”

“You’re right.”

A knock sounded at the open door.

Jasmine turned to see Zack standing in the doorway-he hadn’t stepped inside.

“Mr. Brooks, Mr. Crawford is here.”

Mr. Crawford?

Richard?

As the thought crossed her mind, Richard walked in.

This was only Jasmine’s second time seeing him, but she hadn’t forgotten his name.

Back when the Vance family had locked her in the basement, it was Richard who had helped get her out.

Jasmine spoke first, “Mr. Crawford.”

Richard usually carried a stern, no-nonsense expression, but around Ethan, he seemed warmer, almost affectionate.

“Ms. Thorne-you’re here too. Guess my trip wasn’t for nothing today.”

Ethan smiled. “What brings you by, Richard?”

“What, I can’t stop in?”

“That’s not what I meant,” Ethan said lightly. “You’re usually swamped. I’m surprised you found time to drop by.”

Richard chuckled.

“Ethan, ever since you moved to Rivercrest, you’ve certainly learned how to sweet-talk.”

Then he got to the point.

“I was in the neighborhood and had a few minutes, so I thought I’d come up.

“Also, I wanted to remind you about something.”

Ethan tilted his head slightly. “Go ahead, Richard.”

Richard patted him on the shoulder. “You, have you forgotten something?”

Ethan caught on right away.

“Things have been hectic lately.”

Richard’s gaze settled on Jasmine. “Indeed, quite busy.” Jasmine caught the teasing note in his words and felt a little embarrassed.

“My wife’s been asking about you,” Richard went on. “She’s wondered more than once when you’d come over for dinner.

“Last time, when you came to me about Ms. Thorne’s situation, you said you’d stop by for a meal. But as soon as I helped out, you vanished.

“It seems my position as your uncle does not quite measure up to…” “Uncle Crawford!” Ethan quickly cut in, knowing exactly what was coming next.

“Tonight.”

Richard gave a satisfied, knowing smile.

“Tonight what?”
