“The guy you hit with your car is a ghost now-he follows you everywhere. Haven’t you noticed that chill right behind your neck?”
Chloe shivered, goosebumps rising on her arms.
“You! Stop talking crazy!”
Caleb kept his eyes locked on her.
Chloe felt her scalp prickle.
“You… you…”
Suddenly, Caleb reached out and fake-scared poked toward her shoulder.
Chloe yelped and swung a hand at him, but Caleb was quicker. With a light brush of his arm, she stumbled backward-he wasn’t going easy on her.
Sierra was about to toss out a sarcastic remark when her gaze froze.
The necklace around Chloe’s neck…
She hurried over to Caleb and whispered, “Is that the one?”
Caleb’s eyes zeroed in on it, too. He remembered exactly what it looked like.
It really was.
“Ethan’s…”
Sierra tugged his sleeve gently.
Caleb caught himself-right, Jasmine had no clue about the necklace.
So Chloe had kept it for herself.
To confirm it was the one Ethan designed personally, Caleb stepped closer and reached a hand out.
Chloe instinctively wrapped her arms around herself. “What are you doing, you creep!”
Caleb almost laughed. “If I were gonna creep on someone, it wouldn’t be you. I just want a look at that
necklace.”
Chloe eyed him suspiciously. “Why do you care about my necklace?”
“It looks nice,” Caleb said casually. “Thinking of getting something similar for my girlfriend. Mind if I check it out for reference?”
A smug look crossed Chloe’s face. “This is one of a kind. You can’t buy it anywhere.”

“Oh, really? You’re that sure?”
“Absolutely.”
Caleb smirked. “Then I definitely need a closer look. What makes it so special? Who designed it?”
Chloe grew uneasy. “I… forgot!”
Caleb nudged further. “You didn’t… swipe it from someone, did you?”

That hit a nerve. “Excuse me? If I want something, I don’t need to steal it. You think the Vances are that hard up?”
“Then how come you don’t even know the designer?” Caleb pressed. “Makes me wonder if it’s really yours.”
Chloe scrambled. “It is mine! It even has my initial engraved on it!”
Caleb paused.
Chloe’s initial?
Maybe there really was a duplicate out there.
Eager to prove her point, Chloe flipped the jasmine-shaped pendant over.
“See? Right there-the first letter of my name!”
Cale
Caleb leaned in and smiled faintly. “Yeah, I see it.”
Chloe lifted her chin triumphantly. “Next time, don’t jump to conclusions just because you’ve never seen anything nice.”
Sierra rolled up her sleeves. “I’ve had about enough-”
Caleb hooked an arm around her shoulders. “The Vances have money and connections. We’re out of our league here. Let it go-no point getting worked up.”
Chloe looked beyond pleased. “Exactly. Know your place.”
Jasmine had been watching from a few steps away, confused.
Why were Caleb and Sierra so fixated on Chloe’s necklace?
Catching Jasmine’s eye, Chloe shot her a disgusted look. “Ugh, can’t even go shopping without running into you people.”
Jasmine wasn’t in the mood to deal with her, but as Chloe brushed past, she spoke up.
“Chloe.”
Chloe glanced sideways. “What?”

“Enjoy yourself while you still can.” Jasmine said calmly. “Wouldn’t want you to miss out if the chance viips away later.”
It took Chloe a second, but she got the hint. Without another word, she turned and walked off.
Sierra leaned in toward Caleb. “So it’s not the one?”
Caleb lowered his voice near her ear. “Funny thing-the first letter of her foreign name is J, too.”
Sierra understood. “That J… it’s for Jasmine’s initial?”
“Yeah,” Caleb said. “Ethan engraved it himself.”
For a brief moment, Sierra felt a strange pang, but it faded quickly.
“Then why didn’t you just take it back?”
“How? Snatch it off her neck? That’s street robbery. I’d be the one ending up in jail.”
Sierra scowled. “That necklace belongs with Jasmine. Seeing it on Chloe feels like an insult.”
An insult to Ethan’s feelings, too.
Caleb’s expression turned thoughtful. “Ethan’s heart shouldn’t be wasted on a Vance.”
Sierra perked up. “You have a plan?”
A mischievous grin spread across Caleb’s face. “If we can’t take it openly, we take it quietly.”
The two put their heads together, whispering for a minute.
Jasmine walked over, amused but puzzled. “Are you two sharing secrets I’m not allowed in on?”
Caleb improvised smoothly. “Just remembered I’ve got somewhere to be. Can’t keep tagging along with you two all day.”
