Chapter 232 The Robbery

After that, he handed all the shopping bags to Sierra.

“Here you go.”

Sierra accepted them happily.

“Take care.”

Caleb winked and walked off.

Jasmine couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t right.

“What’s really going on between you two?”

Sierra grinned. “Nothing at all. It’s better this way-now it’s just us girls, we can chat freely.”

Jasmine glanced toward where Caleb had disappeared.

“You’re sure there’s nothing else?”

+20 Free Coins

Deliberately shifting the subject, Sierra suggested, “How about we pick out some outfits for the welcome dinner tomorrow night? Ethan arranged it for you at Zenith Tech.”

Jasmine chuckled. “Is all that really necessary?”

Sierra nudged her playfully. “Come on, just humor me.”

That evening, when Chloe returned home, her face was pale.

Madeline noticed immediately and asked with concern, “Chloe, honey, you look worn out. Did you overdo it shopping?”

Chloe’s mind was still in disarray.

“Grandma… I was robbed.”

“What?” Madeline was startled. “What happened? Who would dare target someone from the Vance family? Come here, let me see if you’re hurt.”

Chloe rushed over, visibly upset.

“I’m not hurt. Some guy just snatched my necklace and took off.”

Madeline paused.

“Only your necklace? Nothing else?”

Chloe shook her head.

“Just the necklace.”

What necklace was it?” Madeline pressed.

Chloe hesitated.

Truth be told, she hadn’t come by that necklace in the most honorable way.

On the day of Jasmine and Silas’ wedding, the gift attendant had accepted it on her behalf.

But it wasn’t meant for her.

It was intended for Jasmine.

The attendant explained that someone had asked to pass the necklace along to the bride of the day.

The bride of the day-that would have been Jasmine, of course.

Chloe didn’t want to hand it over, so she opened the box.

Inside was a simple yet elegant necklace with a jasmine blossom pendant. She was instantly drawn to it.

On the back of the pendant, the letter J was engraved.

As it happened, the first letter of Chloe’s foreign name was J, so she decided to keep it for herself.

But she thought the necklace wasn’t flashy enough for her style, so she never wore it—until that day, when she stumbled upon it while searching for something else and put it on almost out of whim.

Who would’ve thought she’d get mugged right after?

This necklace was nothing but bad luck!

Chloe stewed quietly.

That woman really was a curse. Even anything related to her brought misfortune.

Shaking off the thought, she brushed it aside.

“It was just an ordinary necklace, not worth much. I only wore it because it looked cute.”

Madeline was puzzled.

“But you were wearing rings, bracelets, carrying a designer bag-all worth a small fortune. None of that was touched. Only a cheap necklace? Was that mugger out of his mind?”

Just then, Silas walked in.

“What mugger?”

Madeline filled him in.

Silas found it strange, too.

Then Chloe remembered Caleb.

“I know exactly who’s behind this!”

Silas looked at her. “Who?”

Chloe said angrily, “Who else? That woman. Your ex-wife.”

Silas went still for a moment.

“You saw her?”

“Yes. I ran into her at the mall. She was hanging all over Caleb.”

Chloe exaggerated further.

“Caleb bought her piles of things. They were acting all lovey-dovey, like a couple.”

Silas’ brow tightened.

Madeline sniffed dismissively. “Well, she sure moves fast. Only been divorced a matter of days and she’s already latched onto someone new. When she was with the Vances, she acted all prim and proper-clearly it was just an act.”

Not wanting to listen to the sharp remarks, Silas steered the conversation back.

“What does your mugging have to do with her? You don’t have any proof. Don’t go making reckless accusations.”

Chloe insisted, “How is it not related? I’m sure it is. She probably got annoyed with me and hired someone to scare me-to threaten me!

“But she knew stealing something too valuable would bring serious heat, so she went for the cheapest thing I had on!”

Silas gave her a skeptical look. “You’ve got quite the imagination.”
