Chapter 238 A Heated Exchange

“When it comes to love and marriage. I doubt I’ll ever dive into that again.”

The room fell silent at her words. It was only a game-no one had expected such a raw, honest reply.

Noticing the shift in the air, Jasmine quickly lightened her tone.

“But if I had to choose an ideal type, I’d go with Mr. Brooks.”

That, at least, would spare Ethan any embarrassment.

Almost immediately, the mood lifted again.

Caleb jumped in with a playful grin.

“Well, Mr. Brooks isn’t just Jasmine’s ideal type-I’d bet he’s every woman’s dream guy.”

Jasmine shot him a grateful look. She knew what he was doing: steering the teasing away from her and saving her from further awkwardness.

Ethan was the quiet, thoughtful one; Caleb, rough around the edges yet surprisingly considerate.

Both had their strengths.

Maybe Caleb wouldn’t be such a bad ideal type either.

A simple game, but everyone ended up having a blast.

After a while, Ethan grew a little concerned.

“It’s getting stuffy in here-want to step outside for some air?”

“Sure,” Jasmine agreed. “I’ll go out for a minute.”

“Want company?”

“No, it’s fine. Stay and keep playing with everyone.”

She hadn’t been outside long when she thought her eyes were playing tricks on her.

There, across the way, was Silas.

And he wasn’t alone. Beside him stood an elegant woman-Vivienne, a close friend of his.

They were deep in conversation, facing each other.

Vivienne wore a smile, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes.

Jasmine turned to leave.

Better not to intrude.

But after only a few steps, she spotted someone else rounding the corner.

Jasmine paused.

One more person and they’d have enough for a game of cards.

It was Felicity.

And from the way she was scanning the area, she seemed to be looking for someone.

A phrase flashed in Jasmine’s mind. Cheater patrol.

Had Felicity heard something? Was that why she’d come charging over?

“Ms. Sterling!”

Jasmine called out loudly-deliberately so, just as Felicity was about to notice the pair not far away.

Loud enough for them to hear, too.

Felicity stopped, looking confused.

“You?”

Jasmine offered a polite, empty smile. “Small world.”

Felicity glanced around. “You’re here alone?”

Jasmine’s eyes flickered toward where Silas and Vivienne had been standing.

They were already gone.

Quick reflexes.

“Of course not,” Jasmine replied.

Felicity’s brows drew together, her gaze sharpening. “With Silas?”

Jasmine gave a half-smile. “I don’t make a habit of sneaking around, Ms. Sterling. Or have you forgotten? Silas and I are already divorced.”

“Then who are you with?”

“Do I need to report my company to you?”

Felicity’s expression turned suspicious.

“You need to face reality-you and Silas are over. Don’t cling to false hope.”

Jasmine almost laughed. “False hope?”

“I know you’re bitter about the divorce,” Felicity pressed, disdain clear in her eyes. “And you’re even more bitter about leaving the Vance family behind-all that comfort and luxury, gone.”

“So?”

“You hate me. You hate that I took Silas from you. So now you want revenge. You want to win him back.

Amusing.

Since she had nothing better to do, she decided to play along.

“Wow, you’re sharp. You figured all that out. How’d you guess?”

Felicity’s face changed. “So it’s true. That is what you’re thinking!”

Jasmine kept her tone breezy. “Exactly. So you’d better keep a close eye on your Silas. Don’t let me steal him away.”

“You-!” Felicity clenched her fists, anger flashing. “Silas and I are getting married soon. Trying to ruin someone else’s happiness-you’d be nothing but a homewrecker!”

“Wow!” Jasmine couldn’t hold back a laugh this time. “You actually know the term ‘homewrecker’? Learned it from personal experience, did you? You practically wrote the book on it.”

Felicity’s voice rose. “I’m nothing like you! Silas loves me, and I love him. What we have is real. Your marriage was forced-a matter of convenience!”

Love?

Jasmine chuckled coldly. “Your Silas really does love you, all right.”
