Chapter 29 Taking Back the Promised Apartment
Chapter 29 Taking Back the Promised Apartment
She’d mentioned the apartment and offered to help; she wanted a return.
Madeline was annoyed, but she knew Jasmine’s plan was the only way out.
She let out a cough. “Silas!”
He gave a miserable grunt.

“If you promised that apartment to Jasmine, why would you go back on your word? Is the Vance family broke? If you want to give your nephew a gift, buy him another one. A man is only as good as his word.”
“Jasmine,” Madeline said, putting on the act of a kind, generous elder. “I’m taking your side on this. As soon as the press conference is over, Silas will take you to handle the title transfer.”
“Grandmother, maybe it’s not a good idea,” Jasmine said. “I don’t want to look like I’m taking advantage of
a crisis.”
“Nonsense. Silas already promised it. It’s settled.”
“Alright. Don’t worry, Grandmother. I’ll stand by Silas at the press conference tomorrow. I’m sure this will all blow over quickly.”
Madeline nodded with satisfaction.
Victoria helped her to her feet.
“It’s too early for all this drama. I’m going back to bed.”
Back in her room, once the door was shut, Victoria couldn’t let it go, “Mother! That apartment is prime real estate. Are we really just going to hand it over to that woman for nothing?”
The kindness vanished from Madeline’s face, her tone turning ice cold.
“Do you think I want to? If we didn’t, she wouldn’t have agreed to do the press conference!
“She brought up the apartment because she was waiting for me to say exactly that.”
Victoria was fuming. “But she’s getting it way too easily!”
Madeline was silent for a moment.
“I think we’ve underestimated this adopted daughter of the Thornes over the years.”
“What do you mean?”
Madeline let out a cold snort. “She might just be smarter than all of us put together.”
Victoria looked dismissive. “Mother, you’re giving her way too much credit. She’s nothing.”

Chapter 29 Taking Back the Promised Apartment
Felicity walked out holding the baby, her eyes red with tears.

“Jasmine. I’m so sorry. I’ve dragged Silas into this. Last night… I only touched his face because there was something on it. I was just helping him.
“I truly only see him as a brother.”
Jasmine looked at the sleeping infant and instinctively placed her hand on her own belly.
In two days, she would be saying goodbye to the life inside her.
She didn’t have the energy to play along with Felicity’s act this time. She just looked at Silas.
“Silas, let’s just forget the apartment. If Felicity wants it, let her have it. I’m fine.”
Silas was already nursing a massive headache. He rubbed his temples and said, “I promised it to you. It was my fault for going back on my word. We’ll handle the transfer as soon as this is over.”
With that, he turned and walked away without even looking at the baby.
Resentment flared in Felicity’s eyes as she bit her lip.
Jasmine took a rare moment to actually look at the child.
There wasn’t a single feature that resembled Silas.
“The genetics on your side are quite strong,” Jasmine said with a faint smile. “My nephew didn’t inherit a single thing from my husband. Such a shame.”
Jasmine walked away before she could see Felicity’s face turn pale.
Felicity gripped the baby so hard he started to cry.
Irritated, she called for the nanny.
“Take him. I don’t want to see him right now. He’s driving me crazy!”
The nanny, following her rule of doing the work and keeping her mouth shut, took the wailing infant
away.
But Felicity couldn’t calm down.
She was furious.
That apartment at Moonlight Terrace might not have been huge, but it was in a location where money couldn’t even buy a unit anymore.
If the weather was right, you could sit by the window and watch the most beautiful sunset over the river.
She’d planned to use the baby as an excuse to ask for the apartment.
