Jasmine sat in a chair some distance away. She didn’t hide it. “A hotel. You can check the records if you don’t believe me.”

“Your friend Sierra called me early this morning,” Silas said.

Jasmine was surprised.

Why would Sierra call him?

She hadn’t even mentioned it.

“She told me last night was a misunderstanding. She said Caleb Grant is her boyfriend, and he just mistook you for her because he’d had too much to drink.”

Jasmine was moved almost to tears.

Sierra was actually using herself as a shield to help her.

Silas gave a strange smile. “I didn’t realize your friend was so capable, landing a legendary investor as a boyfriend. Though Caleb is known for his investments, he’s even better known for his rotating door of girlfriends. I doubt they’ll…”

“Silas.” Jasmine didn’t want to hear his gossip. She cut him off.

He looked up at her.

“Have you ever truly loved someone?” Jasmine asked.

Silas was stunned for a long time.

“Why are you asking that all of a sudden?”

“No reason,” Jasmine said with a faint smile. “I just felt like asking.

He pressed his lips together and fell silent again.

A mocking grin touched the corner of Jasmine’s mouth.

He loved Felicity.

But he didn’t have the guts to admit it.

How much of that love was real, and how much was a lie?

Jasmine changed the subject. “Once the title transfer is done, I want to travel for a bit.”

“Why the sudden trip?”

“I haven’t been anywhere in years. I just want to get out.”

“Fine.” Silas said simply.

He thought it might be good. He wanted to see if he’d actually miss her when she was gone

Jasmine breathed a secret sigh of relief.

She was having an abortion in two days and would need time to recover. If she stayed home, she’d be caught.

This was the perfect excuse.

She’d stay away for a few days and the problem would be solved in secret.

Silas stood up to leave.

“Get some rest. Don’t forget the press conference tomorrow morning.”

Jasmine shut the door and called Sierra.

“Are you crazy? Caleb Grant, that playboy, is your boyfriend now?”

Sierra laughed. “It was the only way to kill his suspicions. You can’t give him any leverage right now or it’ll ruin your plan.”

A wave of warmth washed over Jasmine.

Only Sierra would go to these lengths for her.

“Sierra… thank you. Truly.”

“Does that mean you’re taking me to the Celestial Garden for a feast?”

The Celestial Garden was the most exclusive five-star restaurant in Rivercrest.

“Absolutely,” Jasmine said without hesitation. “But it’ll have to wait until after my surgery.”

Sierra was silent for a moment. “Still no second thoughts?”

“None.”

“Alright. I’ll be there with you.”

“Thanks.”

Sierra remembered something and laughed harder.

“But wait, do you even have money to take me there now?”

Jasmine suddenly remembered.

Every cent she had was tied up in the Thorne family debt.

She was officially broke.

“I’ll invite you, and you pay? I’ll put it on my tab and pay you back later?”

“Deal.”

The next morning.

Jasmine accompanied Silas to the press conference.

Facing the aggressive questions from the reporters, Jasmine was calm and poised.

In front of the cameras, she instinctively took Silas’s arm, offering a delicate, loving smile.

Silas pulled her close, his eyes full of tenderness.

They looked like the perfect couple.

The press conference successfully salvaged Silas’s image.

Afterward, the gloom lifted from his face.

“I have to head to the office for a meeting. You go on home.”

Jasmine felt like a tool that had been used and tossed aside.

She didn’t care, but she made sure to remind him. “The title transfer. You aren’t going to back out again, are you?”

“No. We’ll do it in the next day or two.”

“Good.”

Silas walked a few steps, then suddenly turned back.
