Chapter 33 Stay with My Parents
As/expected, the smile vanished from Felicity’s face instantly, though she was quick enough to mask her irritation. Even Chloe, who had been summoned back from a resort trip with her friends, was there. She looked like she wanted to be anywhere else, glaring at their joined hands with obvious disdain, yet for once she kept her snide comments to herself. Someone must have given her a firm warning.
Margaret Gable had prepared a massive spread, including several of Jasmine’s favorite dishes. Apparently Madeline had insisted that Jasmine be treated like a hero for her role in the recent success.
Jasmine didn’t actually care much about the food. All she really wanted was Moonlight Terrace, and she hadn’t expected it to be such a long, exhausting ordeal. Fortunately, things were moving much more smoothly than she had anticipated.
It was a rare family gathering, but the dinner started on a somber note. Madeline began weeping as she brought up Julian, her mourning so theatrical it felt more like a graveside service than a meal. Felicity, ever the performer, joined in with her own practiced tears. Jasmine simply kept her head down, treating the moment like a mandatory minute of silence.
Finally, Madeline wiped her eyes and shifted gears. “Alright, let’s not dwell on the past. It’s been so long since we’ve all sat down together. Let’s make the most of this evening.”
Suddenly, Felicity burst into a fresh wave of tears.
“Felicity, dear, are you still thinking about Julian?” Madeline asked with concern. “It’s my fault for bringing it up. I said I wouldn’t, and then I went and did it anyway.”
“Grandmother, I just feel so guilty,” Felicity said, her voice soft and trembling.
“Whatever for?”
“I… I want to talk to you about something,” Felicity stammered. “I think I should go back and stay with my parents for a while.”
Madeline froze. “Why on earth would you want to do that? Everything is fine here.”
“I’ve caused so much trouble for the Vance family lately,” Felicity sobbed. “I feel terrible about it. I thought if I moved out, people would stop getting the wrong idea.”
“You aren’t to blame for any of that,” Madeline insisted. “It was those gossip-hungry reporters making things up. You’re still recovering from the birth; you aren’t going anywhere. Besides, if you go home now, your parents will think we haven’t been looking after you properly.”
“I’ll explain it to them,” Felicity pleaded through her tears.
“No more talk of leaving,” Madeline said firmly. “Just stay here and focus on getting your strength back. Don’t worry about anything else.”
“But…”
Victoria saw her opening and cut in. “Felicity, has someone been saying things to you?”

Mon,
Chapter 33 Stay with My Parents
Chloe’s head snapped up, her eyes narrowing. “Jasmine! Did you tell Felicity to move out?”
Jasmine didn’t answer; she just looked at her and smiled.
“What are you smiling at?” Chloe shrieked. “I know it was you!”
“I’m smiling because you spend your entire life acting like an idiot,” Jasmine said lazily.
“Why, you-!”
“Chloe, sit down!” Silas barked.

Chloe bristled. “Silas! Who else but her would bully Felicity? It had to be her! Why are you still defending her?”
“Jasmine has been with me all day,” Silas snapped. “I think I’d know if she was bullying anyone better than you would. And speaking of you-with everything the family has been through lately, how do you have the heart to be out partying?”
Stung by the truth, Chloe grumbled something under her breath and sat back down.
“And watch your attitude when you talk to her again,” Silas added, his voice low and dangerous, “or we’re gonna have a problem.”
Chloe’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. “Silas! Since when did you become so protective of this woman?”
It was a fair question. Even Jasmine found it hard to believe. She wondered if this newfound kindness was just a reward for bailing him out at the press conference.
Silas looked at Chloe like a strict, disapproving parent. “Chloe, I am warning you for the last time. Watch your mouth from now on.”
Chloe opened her mouth to argue, but Victoria quickly cut her off with a warning look. Even Victoria was stunned; it was the first time she had ever seen her son stand up for Jasmine. It was a completely foreign sight.
Meanwhile, Felicity’s tears kept flowing. Everyone at the table assumed she was still mourning Julian, but the truth was far more bitter-Silas’s words had cut her to the core.
“Felicity?” Madeline called out, noticing her staring blankly into space.
“Jasmine didn’t tell me to leave. This was entirely my own idea,” Felicity said, choking back her jealousy. She couldn’t believe Silas was defending that woman again.
Seeing the two of them looking so completely infatuated with each other in that video had already pushed her to her limit. She was practically bursting with repressed rage.
Jasmine knew exactly what she was doing. In fact, it was entirely deliberate. Even if it made her stomach turn, she had forced herself to act sweet and affectionate with Silas. She wanted Felicity to sit there and watch the man she desperately craved play the doting husband to someone else. She wanted her to hear
