“Oh, Felicity,” Victoria murmured, stroking her hair. “You really are far too selfless for your own good.”
“Victoria…”
Madeline sighed. “Alright, that’s enough nonsense, Felicity. You are a daughter-in-law of the Vance family. so of course you belong right here. As long as we are around, no one will dare mistreat you.”
The pointed remark hung in the air, a thinly veiled warning. Jasmine, however, just kept chewing her food slowly, completely unfazed. As far as she was concerned, they were just blowing hot air. Free dinner and a show? She wasn’t complaining. She had learned that the best approach was to leave her emotions out of iy and focus on what needed to be done.
After dinner, Jasmine watched with her own eyes as Silas walked straight into Felicity’s bedroom.
During the meal, Felicity had made a point to casually mention, “Leo hasn’t seen Silas all day, and he seems to really miss his uncle.”
The idea that a baby less than a month old could actually miss someone was laughably absurd. It was the flimsiest excuse imaginable, but Silas bought it hook, line, and sinker.
The moment he finished eating, he went right upstairs to visit his “nephew.”
An hour later, Silas walked into Jasmine’s room.
Jasmine, fresh out of the shower, was sitting in bed reading a book.
Silas looked exceptionally pleased with himself. “Leo’s appetite has really picked up the last couple of days.”
Jasmine rolled her eyes. “Did you actually see Felicity nursing him?”
Silas paused, caught off guard. “Well, Leo’s noticeably chubbier. Anyone can see that.”
Jasmine just pursed her lips and said nothing.
“You haven’t held Leo once since he was born,” Silas noted. “Are you still upset?”
Jasmine forced a superficial smile. “Leo is everyone’s little darling, and I don’t really have any experience with babies. I’m just afraid of dropping him.”
Silas walked over and affectionately ruffled her hair. “You have to learn sooner or later. It’ll be good practice for when we have our own.”
We are never having children, Jasmine thought.
“About your father borrowing money,” Silas continued, “I reconsidered.”
Jasmine waited silently, keeping her expression perfectly neutral.

“I know the chairman of a private bank,” Silas said. “I spoke with him, and he agreed to grant your father a loan.”
“Which bank?” Jasmine asked.
“Crestfield Bank.”
Jasmine sneered inwardly. The interest rates at that bank were notoriously extortionate-practically on pr with loan sharks.
Her heart had gone completely cold, but she kept her tone detached. “Thanks, but that won’t be necessary.”
Silas frowned. “What do you mean?”
“My father already sorted it out.” Naturally, Jasmine wasn’t about to tell Silas that she was the one who had handled it.
Silas brushed it off with a casual, offhand remark. “I knew your father was capable. He’s been through plenty of ups and downs, so a minor setback like this was never going to stop him.”
Jasmine felt a sudden urge to slap him across the face.
“I’m going to take a shower,” Silas said, heading toward the bathroom.
Jasmine’s heart sank. It was clear what he wanted tonight.
Once behind the closed bathroom door, Silas tried to control the rising heat in his body. Jasmine had been right. He had seen Felicity breastfeeding the baby. It hadn’t been intentional-he had simply stumbled upon them by accident-but the sultry image was still burned into his mind.
Driven by pure, primal instinct, he desperately needed a release. But he couldn’t touch Felicity.
That was the only reason he had come to Jasmine’s room. And the moment he walked in and saw her in a sexy nightgown, with her pale, beautiful collarbones on display, his desire had instantly flared out of control.
Silas took a quick shower and stepped out with a towel wrapped around his waist.
Jasmine was still sitting in bed, looking completely unbothered.
Silas climbed under the covers on the other side and urged, “Put the book away. Let’s get some rest.”
Jasmine closed her book and said deliberately, “Are you sleeping here tonight?”
“Is that strange?” Silas asked.
“A little. It’s been a long time since we shared a bed.”
Silas leaned over, bringing his lips close to her neck. “What perfume is that? You smell incredible.” The scent made his entire body tense with anticipation.
