Jasmine pulled her hand back and opened the drawer of her nightstand. She took out a medical report and slid it into his hands.

Silas stared at it for a moment, unable to make sense of the text. “What am I looking at?”

“I hadn’t been feeling well lately, so I went to the hospital for a checkup,” Jasmine explained. The doctor said I have a gynecological infection. To avoid any cross-infection, they said we shouldn’t have any intimacy for a while.”

Silas dropped the medical report as if it were a hot potato. “How on earth did you catch something like that?”

Jasmine sighed. “That’s just how it is for women. Once your immune system drops, you’re prone to these kinds of issues. It’s actually very common.”

Silas sat in silence for a long moment before throwing back the covers and getting out of bed. “I’ll leave you to rest, then. Get some sleep.”

Jasmine secretly breathed a sigh of relief. “Silas, I’m so sorry…”

His arousal had faded somewhat, leaving him thoroughly irritated. “Have Mrs. Gable make you something to build your strength back up,” Silas muttered before walking out.

As the stifling atmosphere dissipated, Jasmine finally let out a massive sigh of relief. Even though they had been sleeping in separate rooms for so long, she knew there was always a chance he might suddenly take an interest and catch her off guard.

And sure enough, he had.

Thank goodness she had planned ahead.

Dr. Carter Hayes owed Jasmine a favor, so when Jasmine asked her to forge a medical report, Carter hadn’t hesitated for a second.

Tonight, that fake report had been an absolute lifesaver.

Once something was tainted, Jasmine refused to touch it ever again.

Before opening the door to leave, Silas cast one last glance back at Jasmine. She easily read the look in his eyes: disgust.

She had seen that exact look from him before. Every time she saw it, her heart would ache as if pierced by a thousand needles. But tonight, there was no pain. Instead, she just felt a profound sense of relief.

It felt incredibly freeing to simply not care anymore.

Silas stopped right outside Felicity’s door. He raised his hand to knock, but hesitated, freezing mid-air. No

one knew what thoughts were racing through his mind, but he ultimately turned to walk away.

“Silas,” Felicity called out softly, hurriedly pulling her door open.

Silas paused and turned back around. “You’re still awake?”

“I couldn’t sleep,” Felicity said. “Silas, could you stay with me for a little while?”

Silas started to say something, but stopped himself.

Looking hurt, Felicity pleaded, “Silas, do you hate me now?”

Silas didn’t understand what was wrong with him. He felt an oppressive weight suffocating his chest, an irritation he couldn’t swallow down or vent out. It was pure torture. In the end, his heart softened, and

followed Felicity into her room.

The moment the door clicked shut, Felicity wrapped her arms around him from behind. Her soft chest pressed flush against his back as she murmured his name in a breathless, melting whisper. “Silas…”

Silas could feel his desire screaming for release. He wanted nothing more than to consume her whole just to extinguish the fire burning inside him. But as he turned around and leaned down to claim her lips, time seemed to freeze.

Jasmine’s face suddenly flashed through his mind-her long hair draped lazily over her shoulders, her flawless, porcelain skin, her slender, delicate waist…

Silas abruptly let go of Felicity’s waist, his raging lust evaporating in an instant.

Confused, Felicity tried to press herself back into his arms. “Silas…”

Silas held her at arm’s length. “I’m sorry. I acted on impulse.”

With her robe slipping off one shoulder and her eyes full of temptation, Felicity countered, “Silas, I understand. I know it’s been a long time since you and Jasmine were intimate. You’re a grown man with needs, Silas. I don’t mind…”

Silas sighed. “Felicity, we can’t do this.”

Tears welled up in Felicity’s eyes. “I’m not asking you to do anything for me. I just mean… I can help take care of your needs.”

Not wanting to crush her pride entirely, Silas reached for a safe excuse. “Your body hasn’t recovered yet. Intimacy is completely out of the question.”

Felicity bit her lip. “I could use my-”

“Felicity.” Silas cut her off, wanting to hear no more. “I’m exhausted. I’m going back to my room to sleep.”

Without giving her another chance to speak, he turned and practically fled the room.

Left alone. Felicity was consumed by a mix of humiliation and pure rage. She smashed several items
