Chloe pouted, turning on the charm. “I’m just bored and have nothing else to do. I want to tag along for fun.”
Silas agreed without a second thought. Jasmine merely raised an eyebrow, keeping her thoughts to hersel
The little brat was undoubtedly brewing up another scheme.
After breakfast, the three of them headed over to the title company. The place was packed, forcing them to take a number and wait. Finding the wait unbearable, Chloe slipped outside to wander around.
Silas suddenly brought up a new topic. “There’s a charity auction next week. You’re coming with me.”
Jasmine gave a half-hearted murmur of assent.
When their number was finally called, Chloe came rushing back inside. “Silas, I think Leo is sick!”
Silas visibly tensed. “He was perfectly fine when we left. How could he be sick?”
“I don’t know,” Chloe said. “I was bored, so I called Felicity just now, and she told me.” She shot a pointed look at Jasmine before continuing. “Felicity knew you were busy with important business, so she specifically begged me not to tell you. But Leo’s health is the Vance family’s top priority. You obviously
had to know.”
Silas immediately turned to Jasmine. “We’re going back. This can wait for another day.”
Jasmine sneered inwardly.
Did they think she was a toddler? Felicity’s petty mind games were practically written across her face, yet Silas was completely blind to them.
“Silas, we need to hurry,” Chloe urged. “It’s just paperwork, you can do it anytime. Leo needs you.”
Anxious to leave, Silas started walking away.
“Silas,” Jasmine called out, stopping him in his tracks. “They just called our number. It only takes a second to sign a name. Surely it won’t make a difference if we finish this first.”
Silas looked at her with blatant disapproval. “Do you have absolutely no sense of priority?”
Standing beside him, Chloe smirked, making no effort to hide her smug defiance.
This only cemented Jasmine’s suspicion.
Leo wasn’t sick at all. If a genuine emergency had happened to the baby, Chloe wouldn’t be the one delivering the news. Madeline or Victoria would have called Silas directly.
Felicity really poured every ounce of her cunning into manipulating Silas—desperate to play the villain

while pretending to be the saint.
Realizing there was no keeping Silas there now, Jasmine chose to hold her tongue.
“Mr. Vance.”

Jasmine flinched slightly at the familiar voice. She turned toward the sound and was stunned to see Ethan walking casually toward them.
Was he back from his business trip already?
Silas stopped in his tracks. “Mr. Brooks?”
Ethan offered a polite smile. “I didn’t expect to run into you here, Mr. Vance.”
Silas’s tone grew noticeably warmer and more respectful. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you in person. I’ve been meaning to visit you, but I just haven’t been able to find the time.”
“The pleasure is mine,” Ethan replied smoothly.
“What brings you here, Mr. Brooks?” Silas asked.
“I’m here to close on a property,” Ethan said. “And you, Mr. Vance?”
Silas completely forgot about his urgent rush to leave. “Oh, I’m just accompanying-” He paused for a beat, casting a deliberate look at Jasmine. “My wife took a liking to an apartment, so I’m buying it for her.”
Jasmine rolled her eyes inwardly.
She wanted to greet Ethan, but she knew she couldn’t. If Silas ever found out they knew each other, it would ruin everything she had planned.
She looked up at Ethan, and his eyes met hers at that exact moment. In that brief flash of eye contact, a silent understanding passed between them.
Ethan gave her a thoroughly refined, gentlemanly smile. “Hello, Mrs. Vance.”
Jasmine offered a polite nod. “Hello, Mr. Brooks.”
Without dwelling on her, Ethan turned his attention back to Silas. “Mr. Vance, if you’re finished here, there’s a collaborative project I’ve been working on. I’d love to get your thoughts on it.”
Silas chuckled. “Mr. Brooks, you’re already at the very top of our industry. Do you really need my advice?”
“If anyone is at the top, it’s you, Mr. Vance,” Ethan countered seamlessly. “I’m still new to Rivercrest, and I have a lot to learn about the local market and its future trends. If you don’t mind sharing some insights with a competitor, I could use your guidance.”
Jasmine had to stifle a laugh. She vividly remembered her conversation with Ethan the other day, during which he had analyzed the market’s future trajectory with absolute authority. His sudden display of humility was a masterclass in flattery, and it instantly fed right into Silas’s superiority complex.
