Chapter 38 You Recruited Them
A flicker of something crossed Ethan’s eyes.
“Maybe we did.”
Jasmine changed the subject, steering away from the topic.

“That’s twice we’ve met now, and twice I’ve ended up in your debt,” she said, looking a little self-conscious. “I’m starting to feel quite embarrassed.”
“They were just minor things,” Ethan replied.
“I told you before-once you’re back, I intend to pay you back properly.”
Ethan didn’t say anything, his gaze softening as he looked at her.
Jasmine fell silent for a few seconds before speaking in a low, serious tone.
“There are a few key engineers on Nexora Tech’s R&D team who were brought on with massive signing bonuses. I’m going to give you their profiles. I want them to join Zenith Tech. To keep things from getting complicated, I can’t approach them myself, so the rest will be up to you.”
Ethan didn’t look surprised at all. He simply offered a gentle smile. “No problem.”
“Once you start poaching them, they’ll probably come to me for advice,” Jasmine added. “I’ll give them the push they need when the time comes.”
“If I had to guess,” Ethan said, “you were the one who personally recruited them for Mr. Vance in the first place.”
Jasmine caught herself, slightly startled. “I’m surprised you figured that out.”
Julian’s sudden passing had been a massive blow to Silas, leaving him with little energy to manage the company. A rival business had taken advantage of the vulnerability, poaching several key engineers and severely derailing the development of their new product.
Silas had been at his wits’ end.
Behind the scenes, Jasmine had reached out to some tech experts she had long-standing connections with, arranging for them to apply to Nexora Tech under the guise of being drawn in by high salary offers. Silas had never known it was her doing, genuinely believing it was his company’s prestige that had attracted such talent.
Jasmine let out a sigh.
“This is my way of repaying you, but it’s also entirely for my own selfish reasons. I…”
She trailed off. She wasn’t sure if she should say what came next.
Ethan watched her quietly, not rushing her.

Taking a deep breath, Jasmine said, “The reports in the media over the last couple of days about Silas having an affair-they’re true.”
To hell with keeping family scandals behind closed doors. The Vance house wasn’t her home anyway.
“So, I’m getting a divorce. But if I file for it myself, the Vances will make sure I walk away with absolutely nothing. Before I do that, I’m going to take back what belongs to me. And I’m going to…”
A flash of resentment crossed her eyes.
“I’m going to make sure the people who hurt me pay the price.”
Time seemed to stand still in the room, to the point where Jasmine could hear her own breathing.
She had to admit, telling Ethan the truth about her messy personal life was a gamble.
Seeing that Ethan remained silent for a long while, Jasmine spoke up again.
“I know this makes it look like I’m just using you, but I promise you these people are top-tier tech talent. It won’t take long for you to see their worth with your own eyes. As for me…” Jasmine let out a faint, barely audible sigh. “I will handle the maintenance and updates for that pixel game of yours for the rest of my life, entirely free of charge.”
The corner of Ethan’s mouth tugged upward. “Wouldn’t you be taking a massive loss on that?”
Jasmine’s expression remained dead serious. “Compared to what I’ve given up over these three years of marriage, a loss like this is nothing.”
“There are plenty of major tech companies in Rivercrest,” Ethan noted. “Why choose me?”
“I asked myself the same question,” Jasmine said. “The truth is, I don’t know. Maybe it’s just intuition. My gut tells me I can trust you.”
Ethan went quiet for a moment.
“I’ll pay you every cent you’re owed for the game updates and maintenance, but I do have one condition.”
“Name it,” Jasmine said.
“Once you’ve sorted out your personal affairs, I want you to consider joining my company.”
Jasmine didn’t hesitate. “Deal.”
A brief silence settled between them.
Then. Jasmine remembered something important. “Right, about the contract for the game-I can sign it whenever you’re ready.”
“No rush,” Ethan replied. “I’ll give you a call once the paperwork is finalized.”
As he spoke, he pushed a plate of matcha pastries toward her.

“Supposedly, it’s their newest item. I tried one just now, and it’s pretty good. Give it a taste.”
Jasmine picked one up and took a bite.
