Chapter 40 Lonely and Isolated

Chapter 40 Lonely and Isolated

Watching him through the rearview mirror, Zack felt a sudden wave of sympathy Although he had been by Ethan’s side for years and felt like he knew him well, there were times he realized he didn’t really understand him at all. Sometimes, Zack had no idea what was actually going through Ethan’s mind He would often sit alone for hours on end, looking incredibly lonely and isolated

“As it happens, I don’t love you either, Judy said with a casual laugh. “But we are engaged, and I have no intention of looking for anyone else. So, Ethan, why don’t we give it a real, honest try? Who knows, maybe we’ll end up falling for each other.”

After the call ended, a heavy shadow of worry lingered on Ethan’s face.

When Jasmine returned to Kingsley Bay, the house was unusually quiet.

Margaret hurried over to her. “Mrs. Vance, you’re finally back. Something’s happened.”

“What is it?” Jasmine asked, her voice completely flat.

“Leo was taken to the hospital.”

Jasmine froze.

Was the little guy actually sick? So Felicity hadn’t been lying to play mind games after all?

Jasmine went up to her room to change into some comfortable loungewear. When she came back out, she ran straight into a crowd of people walking through the front door.

And it really was a crowd. It looked like the entire Vance family had turned out.

Without a word of explanation, Victoria rushed forward and pointed a finger right in Jasmine’s face. snapping at her. “What is wrong with you? Leo is sick, and you still forced Silas to go through with that title transfer! You are the most selfish, malicious woman!”

Jasmine glanced over at Felicity.

Felicity’s eyes were red from crying as she held the boy tightly in her arms, shielding him like her absolute world.

Madeline looked equally furious, glaring at Jasmine as if she wanted to tear her apart. “Felicity, take the baby back to your room and get some rest. Make sure he doesn’t catch a cold. If something happens to you, it’ll just give certain people exactly what they want.”

As Felicity walked past Jasmine, she paused and gently pulled up the boy’s sleeve.

His arm was covered in a red rash.

“Jasmine, Leo really is sick,” Felicity said. “But I didn’t want to get in the way of your official business with Silas, so I specifically told Chloe not to mention it to you. Jasmine… I’m so sorry.”

Jasmine stood there, completely bewildered.

Chapter 40 Lonely and Isolated

What was this? Was she playing the martyr now?

Madeline’s heart ached for her. “Felicity, just go back to your room! Why are you wasting your breath explaining things to someone so heartless? Besides, she already got what she wanted Do you really think she cares about your apology?”

Left with no way to defend herself, Jasmine could only watch in silence as Felicity retreated to her room like a victor.

Madeline fumes. “Thank goodness Leo is alright. If anything had happened to him, would you have taken responsibility?”

“Why should I?” Jasmine shot back. “Did I make Leo sick?”

“You ask why?” Madeline countered. “Why didn’t you let Silas come back right away?”

Jasmine turned her gaze directly to Silas. “I want to know exactly what you told them.”

Silas opened his mouth to speak, but shut it under the heavy glares of Madeline and Victoria.

Chloe stepped forward, practically bristling like a fighting cock. “The moment I heard the news, I told Silas. He wanted to come right back, but you forced him to stay. You insisted he finish the title transfer with you first.”

Jasmine looked straight at Silas.

He didn’t say a word.

Jasmine’s heart turned completely cold.

She didn’t want to explain herself. She didn’t think it was even worth it.

She had anticipated everything, but she never imagined the child was actually sick.

The more Madeline looked at Jasmine, the more disgusted she became. “To think Silas’s wife could be so narrow-minded, cold, and ruthless. You are absolutely not the kind of daughter-in-law the Vance family wants! If you don’t want to be part of this family anymore, feel free to walk away. The front door isn’t locked-you can leave whenever you like.”

| Ha!

She was finally showing her true colors.

So this was the real purpose of the whole performance.

Silas stiffened at the words. “Grandmother! Jasmine, she…”

“Quiet!” Madeline snapped. “If you hadn’t been so impulsive back then, you never would have brought a woman like this into our home. You’ve utterly disgraced the Vance family!”

Distraught over Leo, Madeline didn’t hold back a single, biting word.
