Chapter 44 Everyone Makes Mistakes

  • 10 Frae Coms

Looking back, Jasmine felt like an absolute idiot. She had actually convinced herself that Silas was only good to Felicity because their families were close and that he merely viewed her as a younger sister.

Right now, Jasmine felt utterly exhausted. She knew absolutely everything, yet she had to pretend to be completely oblivious. She had to play the part of the devoted, doting wife, matching Silas’s performance step for step and delivering these hollow lines without letting her mask slip for a single second. Once she finally got her revenge, she really ought to consider a career in acting.

“Everyone makes mistakes,” Jasmine said, offering a reassuring smile. “No matter what you do wrong. I’ always forgive you.”

Silas looked skeptical. “You’re not lying to me?”

Jasmine nodded with practiced sincerity. “You’re my husband. I could lie to anyone, but never to you.”

The look in Silas’s eyes gradually softened, warming up to her words. “Your… gynecological issue. Did the doctor say when you’ll be cleared?”

“They said two months,” Jasmine replied. “As long as the follow-up exam looks good, then we’ll be fine.”

Silas frowned, clearly annoyed. “Two whole months?”

“Yes, I double-checked with them multiple times. But the doctor insisted that for your health, and to ensure I fully recover, we need to completely abstain from sex.”

Two months. That was more than enough time for her to execute the rest of her plan. And within those two months, as long as she stuck to wearing loose-fitting clothes, no one would be able to tell she was pregnant.

“By the way, Silas,” Jasmine said, “what did the doctor say about Leo’s condition at the hospital yesterday?”

“I was out taking a phone call at the time, so I didn’t catch it.”

So, Linda hadn’t lied to her.

Jasmine intentionally pressed further. “Then what did Felicity say?”

“She said he might have suddenly come into contact with something yesterday and had an allergic reaction, but it’s nothing serious.”

“Did she really say that?”

Silas picked up on the strange shift in her tone. “What’s wrong? Why bring this up all of a sudden?”

“It’s just…” Jasmine trailed off, feigning hesitation and conflict.

Seeing her like this, Silas urged her on. “What is it? Just say what’s on your mind.”

Jasmine pulled up her phone and held the digital image of the diagnostic report right in front of his eyes.

The report stated in black and white: [allergic reaction to body lotion; symptoms persisting for approximately two days.]

Silas stared at the words ‘approximately two days, his face gradually turning thunderous.

Dropping a curt “Get some rest,” he stood up and walked out.

Jasmine had absolutely no interest in finding out where he was going. She simply went over and locked the door behind him.

At that moment, she realized she had a new problem on her hands: Silas’s sudden shift in/attitude. It was entirely baffling that he would actually say something like “let’s make a real go of things.” In their three years of marriage, Silas hadn’t spent a single day acting like he wanted a real marriage. Jasmine had been entirely expendable.

For him to have a change of heart now was definitely not a good thing for her. Jasmine began to wonder if her performance lately had been a little too convincing, causing Silas to develop actual feelings for her.

Meanwhile, Silas went straight to Felicity’s room.

Felicity was currently nursing the baby. At the sight, Silas averted his gaze and turned his back to her.

Felicity cooed softly at the infant as she fed him, a sweet smile on her face. “Look who’s here, sweetie. Your ‘daddy’ came to see you.”

Silas’s brows knit together in a tight frown.

Once the feeding was over, Linda carried the baby out of the room, and Felicity adjusted her clothes. Even with the provocative display over, her full cleavage remained the kind of temptation few men could resist. Felicity had always been incredibly proud of her figure-all curves and hourglass proportions, exactly where it counted.

“Silas, you don’t look very well,” Felicity noted.

“What day did Leo actually have his allergic reaction?” Silas asked, his voice dangerously low.

Felicity caught her breath, panic flaring inside her. “The doctor said it was yesterday…”

“Did the doctor say that, or did you?!”

Felicity gripped the bedsheets. The sudden interrogation left her completely unable to formulate a believable excuse. “I…”

“Felicity,” Silas sighed, sounding utterly weary. “Why would you do this? Was it really just over that apartment?”

Felicity bit her lip, her eyes instantly welling with tears. “It wasn’t about the apartment, it was for…”

Looking at her pitiful display of grievances, Silas only felt a sudden, inexplicable wave of irritation. It was a bizarre shift. In the past, the mere hint of Felicity looking upset would have completely melted his heart. He used to dote on her fiercely.
