“But what?”
“Your friend is a woman, after all, and I just…”

Jasmine almost burst out laughing. Her mood lifted instantly. “Wow, I didn’t realize you were so old- fashioned. What, are you worried about improper touching?”
Ethan remained perfectly composed. “I also don’t want her family to see me and get the wrong idea.”
“Don’t worry, she lives alone,” Jasmine reassured him.
“That makes it even worse, considering how late it is.”
Amused. Jasmine suggested, “How about I take Sierra, and you take Caleb?”
“No.” Ethan replied automatically.
“Huh?”
Ethan glanced down at her stomach. “Drunk people are heavy. In your… condition, it’s not a good idea.”
A wave of warmth washed over Jasmine. She couldn’t believe how incredibly thoughtful and attentive he was. “What should we do then?”
“I’ll leave my car here and drive yours,” Ethan said. “Once I drop them both off, I’ll come back to get my
car.”
Jasmine noticed how considerate he was by handling it entirely on his own. He clearly didn’t want to trouble her at all. “Whatever you think is best,” she agreed.
Ethan helped Caleb into the car first. When it was Sierra’s turn, he stood there, staring at her for a long
moment.
Remembering he had a fiancée, Jasmine quickly intervened, “If it makes you uncomfortable, I can ask one of the servers to help.”
“Give it two minutes,” Ethan said.
Before Jasmine could ask what he meant, Sierra opened her mouth and threw up all over the ground. A bit of the splatter even caught the edge of Ethan’s coat.
Jasmine watched as Ethan’s brow furrowed in immediate disgust. She scrambled to apologize for her friend. “I am so, so sorry! She’s completely blacked out; she didn’t mean to.”
Ethan’s expression softened. “Good thing we waited a moment.”
Jasmine really wanted to laugh now. “How did you know she was going to throw up?”
“Instinct,” Ethan replied.

Jasmine was speechless.
Fair enough. It looked like she was the one lacking experience in this department.

Ethan gallantly helped Sierra into the car while Jasmine stood by, watching the whole thing without lending a hand.
Sierra slept the entire ride, but Caleb wouldn’t stop mumbling. He was just blurting out random words. making it impossible to understand what he was actually saying.
Until…
“Jasmine! Why don’t you just get a divorce?” Caleb blurted. “Give me another chance to win you over! I refuse to believe I can’t do it!”
Jasmine didn’t take his drunken rambling seriously, but she desperately wanted to shut him up.
“Jasmine! Jasmine! You…”
Ethan chuckled. “Want me to pull over so you can gag him?”
“Don’t bother,” Jasmine replied, exasperated. “He’s just drunk and talking nonsense.”
“A drunk mind speaks a sober heart,” Ethan noted.
Jasmine, completely clear-headed, countered, “He’s just a sore loser.”
For a guy who constantly had women chasing him, having his very first marriage proposal utterly humiliated and turned into a running joke was a massive blow to his ego. It was no wonder he couldn’t let it go.
After dropping Caleb off, Ethan drove over to Sierra’s place.
The moment Sierra hit her comfortable bed, she started unbuttoning her clothes. Before Jasmine could even try to stop her, her collar was already ripped wide open.
For the first time ever, Ethan looked completely flustered. He whipped around instantly, looking like he wanted to bolt from the room.
“Why don’t you wait in the living room?” Jasmine said quickly. “I’ll change her into her pajamas.”
“Right,” Ethan replied, his back still turned.
The bedroom door clicked shut behind him.
Jasmine pinched Sierra’s cheek. “I swear, I can’t wait to see the look on your face when you wake up and realize what you did.”
As she turned around, something caught her eye.
A cardboard box was sitting on the desk, filled with various office supplies. Jasmine glanced back at the

Back in the car, Jasmine felt compelled to salvage her best friend’s image in front of a quality guy.
