Chapter 561 Have Someone in the Car
Chapter 56 I Have Someone in the Car
“Erhan, are you busy?” Judy asked.
“Just about to drive. What’s up?”
“I missed you, so I wanted to call.”
She was incredibly direct, leaving Jasmine feeling a bit awkward.

Eavesdropping on a couple’s sweet talk felt entirely inappropriate. Usually, when a woman said something like that, a man wouldn’t be able to resist.
Yet Jasmine didn’t see a hint of tenderness on Ethan’s face; instead, a faint look of exhaustion clouded his features.
“I have someone in the car,” Ethan said.
Judy paused for a few seconds. “Oh, sorry.”
“I’m hanging up now.”
“Okay, talk later.”
The line went dead.
Jaśmine was genuinely surprised by how the engaged couple interacted.
Why did they seem even more distant than she and Silas?
Still, it was none of her business, so she decided to act like she hadn’t heard a thing.
Ethan didn’t miss a beat, diving straight into business as if nothing had happened.
“Right now, domestic systems completely rely on foreign technology,” he said. “If they cut off our supply, the entire industry chain will collapse. That’s why I want to develop our own operating system. Building an independent technological foundation ensures that Velmora’s tech industry won’t be held hostage by anyone else.”
Hearing this, Jasmine felt a sudden surge of excitement.
“Would you believe me if I told you I’ve always wanted to do the exact same thing?” she asked.
Ethan looked taken aback.
Jasmine gave a self-deprecating smile. “You probably don’t. Everyone thinks I married into the Vance family just to be a pampered housewife.”
Nobody knew that Jasmine possessed her own fierce ambition and pride. Developing a homegrown system and microchip had always been her greatest dream. Now that Ethan had brought it up, that passion was sparked all over again.

Ethan looked slightly caught off guard. “You’ve already made up your mind? I thought you needed more time to think about it.”
“No need, it’s settled. But given my current situation, I still have some personal matters to clear up first For now, we’ll have to keep in touch privately and work under the radar. Once I’ve sorted everything qut. I’ll officially join Zenith Tech.”
“Deal,” Ethan said. Then, a thought struck him. “Let’s make it official starting today. You’re on the payroll. and I’ll make sure your salary is deposited on time every month.”
Jasmine was quick to catch his drift.
“I might be a little tight on cash lately, but I’m not starving,” she said with a chuckle. “I won’t take a single dime until I officially clock in at Zenith Tech.”
Ethan hesitated.
Jasmine offered him a reassuring smile. “Don’t think you’re the only one driven by a sense of patriotism. I have it in me, too.”
A warm smile played on Ethan’s lips. “In that case, I’m planning to set up a research and development base right here in Rivercrest.”
Jasmine nodded in agreement. “The southern suburbs development zone would be perfect. The waterfront views make for a beautiful environment.”
“Great minds think alike,” Ethan said. “I actually just secured a plot of land over there.”
Jasmine froze, suddenly remembering a conversation she’d overheard yesterday between Silas and Felicity about that very location.
“The Vance and Sterling families were just about to close a deal in the southern suburbs, but everything fell through at the last minute because someone swooped in and hijacked it. Don’t tell me… that was you?”
“It was,” Ethan admitted.
Jasmine stared at him, her bright eyes dancing with amusement.
What a saint!
He had essentially gotten revenge on her behalf without even trying. She felt a surge of pure satisfaction as the dark cloud hanging over her completely vanished.
As their conversation wound down, they finally realized the car hadn’t moved an inch this whole time. It was like stepping into an elevator and completely forgetting to press the button for your floor.
They locked eyes and burst out laughing.
“It’s getting late, so don’t bother heading back to grab your car,” Jasmine said. “Just drive straight to your

place.”
Ethan hesitated.
“Listen to me, let’s just do that,” Jasmine insisted.
Ethan didn’t push back further. “I’m at Moonlight Terrace.”
Jasmine thought she had misheard him. “Moonlight Terrace?”

“I got pretty lucky,” Ethan explained. “I thought it would be impossible to buy a place there, but the previous owner was moving abroad permanently and wanted a quick sale. The agent notified me immediately.”
Jasmine smiled. “What a coincidence.”
“What do you mean?” Ethan asked.
“I live there too. When we ran into each other at the title company, I was actually completing the deed transfer for my apartment there.”
She couldn’t believe how small the world was.
Ethan was clearly caught off guard by the news as well, momentarily dazed.
Without warning, a sudden wave of nausea hit Jasmine, and she began to dry heave. Ethan pulled the car over to the curb and quickly pulled out some tissues, offering them to her.
Once the wave passed, Jasmine managed a weak smile. “I half expected you to stay as far away from me as possible.”
“Hold on a second,” Ethan said. He stepped out of the car, walked around to the back, and popped the trunk. He retrieved a paper gift bag, climbed back into the driver’s seat, and handed it over to Jasmine.
“What’s this?” Jasmine asked.
“Saltine crackers, ginger candy, and pretzels,” Ethan said. “I read online that they help with morning sickness. Last time I saw you, your symptoms seemed pretty severe, so I picked some up just in case. There are also a few sweet pastries in there-I remembered you like them.”
