On the drive over, Ethan had already dug into Gary’s background and discovered he owed two hundred thousand dollars in gambling debts.

“You’ll use two hundred thousand to clear your debts,” Jasmine continued. “The remaining hundred thousand is the last bit of help you will ever get from Margaret. After this, whether you live of die has nothing to do with her.”

Gary was entirely unsatisfied. “No way! It has to be five hundred thousand!”

Jasmine’s tone remained completely flat, but it carried an unyielding chill. “Three hundred thousand is my final offer, and you’d better think long and hard about it. With this money, you can pay off your debts and keep the loan sharks from breaking your arms and legs.”

Gary stared at Jasmine for a long moment, feeling a sudden pang of intimidation. The woman looked like she was not to be messed with, and the man standing beside her looked even more dangerous. He decided it was best not to push his luck.

“Fine,” Gary grumbled, backing down.

“I have one condition, though,” Jasmine said.

“Why do you have so many damn rules?” Gary snapped.

“You’re going to write and sign a formal agreement,” Jasmine instructed. “You will promise never to harass your mother again, and you will never ask her for another cent.”

Gary’s face fell. He had originally planned to take the three hundred thousand now and simply track Margaret down for more cash later, but Jasmine had just completely shattered his little scheme. Defeated, he had no choice but to sit down and write out the agreement.

To uphold her end of the deal, Jasmine needed to wire him the money on the spot. However, the only money she had on hand was the hundred thousand Arthur had given her, plus the card from Silas. But Silas’s card could only be used for direct purchases, not bank transfers.

Just as Jasmine opened her banking app intending to use a credit card, a notification popped up on her screen. A deposit had just gone through.

It was for exactly three hundred thousand dollars, sent by Ethan.

Jasmine looked up at him. Ethan didn’t say a word; he simply gave her a reassuring nod.

Jasmine felt her cheeks grow warm with embarrassment. She couldn’t help but feel a little guilty, as if she were treating Ethan like her own personal ATM.

Before getting into the car, Margaret suddenly grabbed Jasmine’s hand. Tears streamed down her weathered face; she had never expected anyone to care for her like this again in her lifetime.

Jasmine froze, caught completely off guard.

Ethan hurried over from the passenger side, reaching out to steady Margaret before she lost her balance. Looking at the elderly woman, he said, “She’s pregnant and shouldn’t be straining herself. Try not to press p too hard on her.”

Margaret blinked in surprise. The fact that this man knew about Mrs. Vance’s pregnancy meant they had to be incredibly close.

“Margaret, you’ll be staying at Moonlight Terrace from now on,” Jasmine said, breaking the silence. “Once settle things with the Vance family, I’ll be moving in there too.”

Margaret, however, was still wrestling with the thought of the three hundred thousand dollars. “Mrs. Vance, I will serve you for the rest of my life. You don’t need to pay me a salary anymore-just feeding me is enough.”

Jasmine offered an embarrassed smile. “Well, keeping you fed won’t be an issue, but I definitely can’t afford to pay you a salary right now anyway. I just went three hundred thousand dollars into debt, after all.”

The sacrifice only moved Margaret even deeper.

Once they arrived at Moonlight Terrace, Jasmine personally helped Margaret wash her hair and clean herself up. It was the first time Margaret had ever been cared for like this, let alone by Jasmine, and she wanted nothing more than to wrap her in a tight hug. Remembering Ethan’s warning, however, she held herself back. Instead, she quietly swore to herself that she would look after Jasmine as if she were her own daughter.

By the time they finished, exhaustion was finally catching up with Jasmine. “Get some rest, Margaret, and don’t worry about a thing. This is your home now.”

Margaret held onto Jasmine’s hand, her heart aching for her. “Mrs. Vance….”

“Margaret, don’t call me Mrs. Vance anymore,” Jasmine interrupted gently. “Just call me Jasmine.”

Margaret nodded tearfully. “Jasmine… as long as I have a breath left in me, I will take care of you.”

Something suddenly occurred to Margaret. “Jasmine, there’s something I’ve been keeping from you. I was worried that if I told you, you’d get upset and it would hurt the baby.”

Jasmine gave a calm, faint smile. “After surviving all those years in the Vance household, I don’t think there’s anything left that could shock me.”

“A while back, I accidentally overheard Madeline and Victoria talking,” Margaret said. “Madeline mentioned that since the Sterling family is becoming more and more powerful, Felicity is the only one who is truly a suitable match for the Vances. She said that since Julian is dead and Felicity is carrying Silas’s child anyway, they might as well just bring the two of them together.”

Jasmine felt no rush of emotion at the news, only a cynical smile tugging at her lips. “I know.” Even without Madeline explicitly stating it, Jasmine already knew exactly what they were plotting.

“Jasmine.” Margaret said, her face clouded with worry. “I know they’re trying to corner you so you’ll ask for a divorce and leave with nothing, or they’re just looking for an excuse to throw you out. You have to be careful, Jasmine. Don’t fall into their trap. I saw firsthand how well you treated Silas over the last three
