That’s why I support whatever you decide to do next. Just promise me you’ll protect yourself Don’t forget there’s a little life inside you now.”
Jasmine smiled, touched by her words. “I will, Margaret. Thank you.”
Leaving Margaret’s room, Jasmine rubbed her aching lower back. Carrying a baby was really starting to take a toll on her body.
She noticed Ethan sitting in the living room. Since it was chilly out, she poured him a glass of milk from the fridge, popped it in the microwave to take the chill off, and brought it over to him.
“I’ll pay you back that three hundred thousand dollars as soon as possible,” Jasmine said.
Ethan took the milk with a faint smile. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll just deduct it from your salary later.
Jasmine laughed. “Well, I guess I have no choice but to work for your company now.”
Realizing how that might have sounded, Ethan quickly corrected himself. “I’m just teasing. I don’t want you to stress over the money. Even if you find a better opportunity down the road, it’s completely fine.”
“As of right now, Zenith Tech actually is my best option,” Jasmine replied with a warm smile. “After all, Zenith Tech has a pretty great boss. I don’t think I could go wrong working for someone like him.”
Something crossed Ethan’s mind. “I’ll have Zack drop off the essentials Margaret needs tomorrow, so don’t worry about going out to buy them yourself.”
Jasmine didn’t argue. “All right, thank you.”
Noticing her massaging her back, Ethan asked, “Is your back sore?” %
Jasmine gave a wry smile. “Yeah, it happens all the time now that I’m pregnant.”
Ethan’s expression faltered slightly. He looked as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he kept it to himself.
Silas’s phone call broke the brief silence. Jasmine didn’t bother stepping away, answering right in front of Ethan.
Silas sounded incredibly tense. It made sense that he would be; losing several core engineers all at once wasn’t exactly something to smile about.
“The charity auction is the day after tomorrow,” Silas said. “I assume you haven’t forgotten?”
“I’m coming back tomorrow,” Jasmine replied.
“Good. As long as you remember.”
“If that’s everything, I’m going to hang up.”

Chapter 68 Work for You
Are you really that desperate to avoid talking to me?”
Suppressing her irritation, Jasmine said. “No, I’m just tired and want to get some rest.”

On the other end of the line, Silas took a deep drag of his cigarette. “We’ve had some trouble at the company.”
Jasmine played dumb. “What happened?”
“Do you remember Ethan, the guy we ran into last time?”
Jasmine glanced out of the corner of her eye at the man sitting quietly on the sofa. Even just drinking a glass of milk, he looked completely elegant and composed. She bit back a laugh.
The fun was just getting started; it wasn’t time to celebrate yet.
“I think I remember him. Why?”
Silas practically spat the words. “I told you, a wolf doesn’t raise a rabbit. The guy looks perfectly sophisticated, but he’s a predator. In just a matter of days, he managed to secretly poach several of my key technical staff. I didn’t think he’d have that kind of network so soon after moving from Portshire to Rivercrest.”
Feigning ignorance, Jasmine said, “How could that happen? You must be under so much pressure right
now.”
Silas let out a cold laugh. “He thinks stealing a few employees is going to ruin me? As long as I have money, I can find replacements. The tech department will be back up and running in a few days.”
Jasmine knew that was true. With a high enough offer, you could always find someone, so his bravado didn’t disappoint her.
“It’s a relief you can replace them. You really scared me,” Jasmine said, intentionally putting on a worried
act.
“Actually, I need you to do something for me,” Silas said.
Jasmine figured it wouldn’t be anything good.
“That guy Caleb-isn’t he an upperclassman from your university?”
“Yes, what about him?”
“I want you to introduce us.”
Jasmine froze for a few seconds. “What are you planning?”
“I heard he has a lot of connections with top political figures. I want to use him to build some influential relationships.” Assuming she was hesitating, Silas threw out a bribe. “If you pull this off, I’ll buy you whatever you want.”
