Chapter 77 A Pretty Good Couple
Chapter 77 A Pretty Good Couple
Gratitude washed over Jasmine. Thank you. Sierra”
“Oh, stop. Move it, we’re on a clock.”
The two of them quickly swapped dresses in the restroom. Fortunately, they shared a similar build, so the clothes fit well enough without looking awkward.
“What about Chloe?” Sierra asked.
“Let her stay in there and think about what she did.” Jasmine replied. “Just leave her. Someone will let her out eventually.”
“Works for me.”
When they stepped out together, they ran right into Caleb near the entrance of the banquet hall.
Caleb took one look at their outfits and grinned. “What’s this, a wardrobe-swap game?”
But his smile faded when he noticed the broken strap on Sierra’s dress, which she was holding tightly against her chest to avoid exposing herself. Dropping the jokes for once, Caleb decisively stripped off his suit jacket and draped it over Sierra’s shoulders.
Jasmine looked on, still feeling uneasy. “Sierra…”
Caleb immediately guessed what she was worried about. “Go on inside. I’ll make sure she gets home safe.”
“I drove myself,” Sierra snapped, annoyed. “I don’t need you to take me anywhere. You two should both go inside.
Instead of listening, Caleb took her by the arm and started steering her away. “Well, I didn’t drive,” he retorted as they walked. “So this is perfect-I’m hitching a ride. Besides, I need my jacket back. This thing is a limited edition.”
Even though Caleb rarely played by the rules, Jasmine had to admit he never faltered when it mattered most. Watching them walk away together, she suddenly had the fleeting thought that they actually made a pretty good couple.
“What are you still doing out here? The gala has already started.”
Silas had stepped out to look for her after noticing she’d been gone for a while. “Have you seen Chloe anywhere?”
“No idea,” Jasmine replied, her tone sharp.
Silas glanced at her dress. “Why are you wearing Sierra’s clothes?”
“A dog tore mine,” Jasmine said. “Sierra lent me hers.”
“A dog?”

Jasmine wasn’t in the mood to explain. “It’s starting. Let’s just go inside.”

Most of the items up for auction tonight were oil paintings and antique ceramics, and the entire event was being live-streamed. Jasmine had every intention of making Silas bleed cash tonight, but unfortunately, nothing had caught her eye-until the final piece, the grand finale, was brought out.
Jasmine froze.
That flawless, colored diamond necklace… wasn’t that the exact one she had sold? How did it end up here? Just how loaded was the buyer to donate a piece like this for a charity auction?
My god. The buyer wasn’t just insanely rich; they were incredibly generous.
Meanwhile, Silas checked a text message that had just come through from Felicity.
[Silas, I love this necklace.]
Silas frowned slightly, but typed back a brief reply: [Okay.]
As luck would have it, Jasmine caught a glimpse of the message. She let out a silent, mocking scoff. Felicity certainly had some nerve, making a demand that huge. But as it happened, Jasmine, wanted it too. Now, she was absolutely going to fight for it.
Turning to Silas, Jasmine spoke up. “Silas, didn’t you say you’d buy me whatever I wanted at the auction tonight? I want this. I think this necklace is absolutely stunning.”
Silas’s frown deepened.
It was just one necklace-how was he supposed to split it between them?
“Silas?” Jasmine asked, tilting her head. “Are you backing out on your promise?”
Silas forced a smile. “Of course not.”
“So you’ll bid on it?”
“Yes.”
The bidding had already reached 160 million, and most of the room had stopped raising their paddles. Just when everyone assumed the exquisite necklace was about to go to Silas, someone else raised their paddle.
Jasmine looked closely at the bidder. It was Zack.
An idea suddenly struck her, and she seized the opportunity. “Silas, isn’t that guy Mr. Brooks’s assistant?”
Hearing that, Silas didn’t hesitate. He immediately countered Zack’s bid. The two went back and forth until the price was driven up to a staggering 250 million.
Jasmine was thrilled. Silas was so predictable-push the right buttons, and his competitive streak completely took over.
