Jasmine was left reeling by the sudden turn of events. She had expected a long, bitter fight for this necklace, and half-assumed it would end up with Felicity anyway. She never imagined it would end up around her own neck so easily.

Wasn’t this whole thing a bit too smooth?

Having secured both a sterling reputation and the title of a doting husband, Silas was in an excellent mood. Jasmine, however, remained dazed through the rest of the gala.

Logically, she should have been thrilled. This was a necklace her father had given her, and she had it back Yet a lingering uneasiness kept her from truly celebrating.

It felt as though someone were pulling their strings.

No. More accurately, someone was pulling Silas’s strings.

Someone had maneuvered Silas into buying the necklace at an exorbitant price, and then engineered a situation where he had no choice but to give it to her.

Masking her suspicion, Jasmine put on a grateful expression. “Thank you, Silas. I really love it. I just… feel terrible that you had to spend so much money.”

For once, Silas spoke to her with rare warmth. “I promised you I would. Besides, you’re the one who connected me with Mr. Grant, and he’s already introduced me to several key figures in politics. Consider this your reward.”

No sooner had Silas spoken than his phone rang. Chloe’s frantic wailing pierced through the line.

“Silas! Someone beat me up…”

Jasmine followed Silas as he rushed to the room where it had happened. When she saw the state Chloe was in, Jasmine froze in shock.

Chloe had been knocked unconscious and left lying on the freezing floor in nothing but her flimsy gala dress for hours. The room had no heating, and her lips were a terrifying shade of pale. Worse still, both of her cheeks were swollen and bright red. Jasmine knew she had slapped Chloe earlier, but that had only left a mark on one side.

She had merely locked Chloe in the room and left her unharmed; how had things escalated to this?

Jasmine was also certain that Chloe wouldn’t resort to such a brutal, self-destructive stunt just to frame her.

Chloe threw herself into Silas’s arms, sobbing uncontrollably. Though Silas lectured his sister constantly, he loved her deeply, and his face twisted with pure rage.

The manager of the Celestial Garden, Daniel, arrived shortly after. He paled at the sight, knowing the hotel would absolutely be held liable for an injury on their premises. He immediately ordered his staff to check the security footage, but to everyone’s surprise, the entire recording from the moment Chloe and Jasmine clashed up until Chloe was found beaten had vanished.

Someone had tampered with the cameras, though the hardware itself wasn’t damaged.

Jasmine already had a theory.

From a technical standpoint, someone had wiped that specific footage by hacking into the hotel’s security system. But who would do that? If the culprit wanted to frame her, they wouldn’t have deleted the footage of her locking Chlorin the room in the first place.

Jasmine was completely baffled.

Silas, meanwhile, flew into a rage, tearing into the hotel staff and issuing a lethal ultimatum: “If this hotel doesn’t give me answers, I will bring in the best legal team money can buy and shut the Celestial Garden down for good.”

Terrified and helpless, Daniel immediately called upper management while Silas rushed Chloe to the hospital.

At the hospital, the doctor performed a thorough examination. Aside from localized soft tissue damage to her cheeks, Chloe had sustained no other physical injuries. Silas’s greatest fear-that his sister had been assaulted-was ruled out. It seemed whoever knocked Chloe out hadn’t been after money or sex; they had targeted her solely to slap her across the face. It was bizarre.

The police arrived to take statements, but they came away with absolutely nothing. Chloe hadn’t even caught a glimpse of her attacker. What should have been a straightforward incident had suddenly become an absolute mystery.

Her eyes bloodshot from crying, Chloe glared at Jasmine with pure hatred. “It was you! You did this to me!”

“Chloe, stop talking nonsense,” Silas snapped. “Jasmine was with me the entire time. How could she have hurt you?”
