In/that exact moment, Silas felt his heart skip a beat.
Jasmine spoke again, her voice slow and deliberate.

“I’ll give you time to uncover the truth. But if it proves that I wasn’t the one who hurt Chloe, every single one of you will owe me an apology. Otherwise, I’m not going to that awards ceremony tomorrow. And if Mr. Crawford asks why I’m not there, I will tell him exactly what happened.”
Madeline was an old fox, seasoned and calculating. Though she was privately seething, her face remained perfectly calm.
She offered a faint smile. “Are you threatening me?”
“No, I’m not threatening you,” Jasmine countered. “I’m defending my dignity because all of you have dragged it through the mud.”
Victoria wanted to snap back, but her lips only trembled, completely failing to find words. She finally understood what Madeline had meant before. Her sister-in-law was truly not to be underestimated.
“Furthermore,” Jasmine continued, her quiet voice cutting clearly through the room, “my husband gave me that necklace. Why on earth should I hand it over to you? Is this how the Vance family treats their daughters-in-law? Taking back gifts that were already given?”
“That necklace belongs to-” Victoria started.
“Enough,” Madeline interrupted, cutting her off.
“Since Silas gave her the necklace, we have no business demanding it back. The Vance family isn’t so desperate that we need to reclaim jewelry. We’d be the laughingstock of the city if word got out.”
At a sharp look from Madeline, Victoria shut her mouth. The absolute priority right now was ensuring Jasmine attended the ceremony tomorrow; they simply couldn’t afford to offend Richard.
Madeline finally conceded. “Fine. I agree to get to the bottom of this.”
“And if you find nothing, you will still apologize to me,” Jasmine added. “Because you punished me without a shred of evidence.”
Madeline suddenly laughed, a chilling, humorless sound. “Jasmine, you really have no respect for your elders, do you?”
“If I had no respect for you, I wouldn’t have spent the last three years honoring you, biting my tongue, and swallowing every bit of injustice thrown my way. It’s been three years, Grandmother. Don’t you think it’s time you showed your granddaughter-in-law a little compassion?”
Madeline was left speechless. She was certain now that Jasmine hadn’t been the one to hurt Chloe. A guilty person would never speak with this much confidence. Because of that, she hesitated to agree to the terms. If she did, she would actually have to apologize-and as the matriarch of the Vance family, Madeline had never bowed her head to a junior.

The silence grew heavy, and the tension in the room hardened as no one dared to say another word
“Jasmine.”
Felicity appeared out of nowhere, looking as fragile and helpless as ever.
Jasmine glanced at her, feeling a wave of sheer exhaustion.
“Jasmine, I know you didn’t mean to hurt Chloe. There must be some kind of misunderstanding,” Felicity said. “Grandma and Victoria only punished you because they were worried sick about Chloe. Please, just let it go for their sake. They were just acting out of a mother’s love.”
Jasmine let out a hollow laugh. “You really love playing the saint, don’t you?”
“Jasmine…” Felicity’s eyes welled with tears. “I know you’ve been resentful ever since I used Silas’s sperm. You’re angry with me, and I get it. But please, don’t take it out on Grandma, Victoria, or Silas. If you need to vent, scream at me, hit me-do whatever you want. I’m right here. No matter what you do, I won’t figh back. I’m just begging you to stop hurting everyone. Grandma is getting older and can’t take this kind of stress. She’s given everything to this family, and as her grandkids, we should be understanding.”
Ha.
Clever move. Felicity knew exactly what she was doing by stepping in now; she had absolutely nothing to lose and everything to gain. After a speech like that, Madeline and the others would practically worship the ground she walked
“Jasmine, if you’re still angry, I’ll apologize on behalf of Grandma and the family,” Felicity added. “Will that make it right?”
Jasmine knew she was being backed into a corner. Felicity was trying to roast her alive.
Fine. If they were going to trap her up there, she might as well stay.
A faint, mocking smile played on Jasmine’s lips as she spoke. “Alright. Since you’re being so sincere, go ahead and apologize.”
“I’m so-”
“I want to see real sincerity,” Jasmine interrupted.
Felicity froze. “What do you mean?”
“Get down on your knees and apologize.”
“Jasmine!” Silas barked, jumping in. “Do you even hear yourself right now?”
“Perfectly. Do you?” Jasmine replied smoothly.
