A sudden wave of sadness hit Zack. He couldn’t quite put his finger on why he felt so down, but there was a heavy tightness in his chest. “Mr. Brooks…”
Ethan smiled, seeming to find peace with it. “More importantly, I genuinely want to work with her. Her capabilities are on par with mine. Having her around is like gaining a right-hand man, and it gives me someone else I can trust one hundred percent, just like you.”
Zack nodded in agreement. “I don’t know Ms. Thorne that well, but for some reason, I’ve always felt like she’s someone worth having around.”
Ethan gradually pulled himself away from his thoughts. Some regrets might never be made right in this lifetime.
But it was fine. At least she was still here.
“Mr. Brooks, are you going to tell Ms. Thorne about what happened at the auction today?” Zack asked.
Ethan smiled. “I don’t need to. She’ll find out on her own very soon.”
Zack was about to ask how, but then it clicked. He had almost forgotten that Jasmine was a tech genius herself and incredibly sharp. If Ethan could breach the hotel’s security system to wipe that footage, Jasmine was more than capable of restoring it.
Zack let out a quiet sigh.
They really were a match made in heaven. What a shame they missed out on the right time, the right place, and the right circumstances.
Meanwhile, Jasmine returned to Moonlight Terrace, only to find Margaret packing things away.
Jasmine rushed over to her. “Margaret, what are you doing? Your arm isn’t healed yet-you should be resting!”
“It’s nothing major, just a broken arm,” Margaret replied. “I still have my other hand, don’t I? I’m not used to just lying around all day, so I figured I’d find something to do.”
Only then did Jasmine notice the piles of items cluttered across the living room floor. “Margaret, what is all this?”
“Oh, Mr. Brooks’s assistant dropped them off. There’s so much stuff, it gave me a bit of a shock when he brought it in. It looks like he practically cleared out the supermarket.”
Margaret glanced at Jasmine, studying her face. “Jasmine, you look pale. And why are you back so suddenly this late at night?”
“It’s nothing,” Jasmine said. “I just wanted to come back and check on things. It felt too suffocating staying over there.”
“Well, if you’re not happy there, you’re always welcome back here. I’ll make you something delicious,”

Margaret said warmly. “But you really shouldn’t be running around in the middle of the night like this. You don’t want to startle the baby.”
“Alright.” Jasmine agreed softly.
Suddenly, something clicked in Margaret’s memory. “Oh, that reminds me, Jasmine-the milk in the fridge has been expired for days. Why is it still in there?”
Expired milk?
The realization hit Jasmine instantly, and her mind flashed back to Ethan’s sudden bout of diarrhea. She hurried over to the fridge, swung the door open, and checked the carton.
Sure enough, it was past its expiration date.
“But I just bought these two days ago,” Jasmine muttered to herself. “How is it already expired?”
“You don’t grocery shop very often, do you, Jasmine?” Margaret remarked. “Supermarkets usually put the milk that’s about to expire right at the front on discount. You probably weren’t paying attention and just grabbed the first one you saw.”
Jasmine thought back to that day. It seemed that was exactly what had happened.
So after all that, she was the culprit behind Ethan’s stomach issues. Talk about a massive oversight.
Jasmine instinctively wanted to call Ethan to apologize, but looking at the time, she realized it was far too late, and he was likely already asleep. She dismissed the idea.
Heading back to her room, Jasmine quickly washed up and opened her laptop. She had far more important things to focus on tonight.
Everything that had happened-from the start of the auction, to Silas winning the necklace, to it landing so easily in her hands, and finally to Chloe being attacked-none of it could be a mere coincidence. In fact, she might need to trace things all the way back to the person who originally bought her necklace.
Jasmine stayed up working until the early hours of the morning.
Early the next morning, Ethan’s phone rang before he was even out of bed. It was Jasmine.
The moment he picked up, she cut straight to the chase. “Are you free? Let’s meet up.”
“Building 3, Apartment 1906,” Ethan replied.
A quarter of an hour later, the doorbell rang.
Ethan, dressed in a white loungewear set, went to answer it. Tall and slender, he carried an air of effortless, gentle refinement.
When he saw Jasmine standing at his doorstep with dark circles under her eyes, his brow furrowed slightly. “Didn’t sleep last night?”
