Silas let out a low chuckle. There wasn’t a trace of sympathy or concern in his voice-only a calculating, smile. “Isn’t that perfect? That’s exactly where I come in as his son-in-law.”
Felicity caught herself. “Silas, what do you mean by that?”
“Thorne Enterprises’ stock is plummeting right now,” Silas said. “If I want to acquire it, the price will be di cheap.”
Felicity gasped. “You want to buy Thorne Enterprises?”
“Back when they were drowning in debt, I brought up an acquisition to Arthur. It’s just a pity…”
It was a pity his father-in-law had been too stubborn to ever sell the company, brushing him off with vague
excuses.
Jasmine couldn’t hear whatever they said next. Her hands clamped into tight fists as her body began to tremble uncontrollably. Silas’s voice felt like a blade, stabbing into her chest over and over again until her heart was left raw and bleeding.
Silas was actually hoping her father would never wake up.
Suddenly, a pair of warm hands gently covered Jasmine’s ears from behind.
She turned around slowly. Ethan stood before her, looking sharp and elegant in a long black coat. He was like a sudden beacon of light piercing through her darkest depths, his voice gentle yet firm as he reassured her, “Arthur will wake up.”
Jasmine’s tears finally broke free, streaming down her face uncontrollably.
Ethan shifted his position to shield her from the glances of passersby. Finding sanctuary in his shadow, Jasmine let herself weep freely. She was terrified-terrified that Silas’s words would become a self-fulfilling prophecy and her father would never wake up. She was also consumed by hatred.
How could she have ever fallen for a man like Silas?
It wasn’t until a long, slender finger carefully wiped a tear from her cheek that Jasmine realized she was losing control. She covered her eyes and took two deep breaths to steady herself.
“I don’t understand why Dad never told me Silas wanted to buy the company.”
Ethan looked at her, a shadow crossing his brow. “Maybe he didn’t want it to affect your marriage. Or maybe he just didn’t want you to worry.”
Jasmine let out a bitter laugh. “Marriage? What marriage? I used to think he just didn’t love me, but I never imagined he was after Thorne Enterprises the entire time.”
The words had barely left her mouth when a sudden, sharp pain flared in her abdomen. Clutching her stomach. Jasmine bent over.

Chapter 97 Buy the Company
Ethan’s tension was immediate and palpable. “What’s wrong?”
“My… my stomach hurts,” Jasmine gasped, gripped by a wave of pain and panic.
“Forgive me,” Ethan said, wasting no more time. He swept her up into his arms and hurried away.

Jasmine wrapped her arms around his neck. Looking up at his sharp, tightly set jawline, she momentarily forgot the pain. His arms were strong, and his chest felt sõlid, offering her an immense sense of security: Aside from Silas, this was only the second time Jasmine had ever been this close to a man. She couldn’ quite put the feeling into words, but having Ethan there made her feel far less helpless.
In the emergency room, the doctor finished the examination and offered some reassurance.
“It was brought on by stress. The baby is fine, but you absolutely must get some rest and keep yourself
calm.”
Jasmine’s heart finally settled, and she noticed the tension drain from Ethan’s posture as well.
However, Jasmine had overlooked one major detail: this was the very hospital where her pregnancy records were registered. The doctor had full access to her medical history.
“Since this was a case of artificial insemination, you need to be extra careful,” the doctor added directly. “If you experience any discomfort at all, don’t take any medication on your own. Come straight back to the hospital for a checkup.”
Jasmine’s heart skipped a beat. Wracked with guilt, she didn’t dare look at Ethan.
The doctor’s words left Ethan visibly stunned for a long moment.
When they finally stepped out of the office, Jasmine forced herself to act as if nothing had happened. Fortunately, Ethan didn’t press the matter, allowing her to breathe a quiet sigh of relief.
Instead, Ethan brought up a different topic. “I know a cardiovascular and cerebrovascular specialist who combines traditional and modern treatment methods. He’s successfully treated many patients with similar conditions. It might be worth a shot.”
Jasmine seized upon this like a lifeline, instinctively grabbing Ethan’s wrist. “Really? Where is he? I’ll go clear across the country to bring him here right now.”
“He’s at a small community hospital,” Ethan said.
