I Divorced You Now You Beg (Thalia and Darion) novel Chapter 149

Chapter 149

Clinton didn’t refuse her invitation. He smiled warmly at her. “Well, I’d be honored to join you,” he said.

Thalia drove them to a restaurant she visited regularly.

She ordered several of their signature dishes and glanced at Clinton. “Is there anything else you’d like to try?” she asked.

Clinton shook his head. “This should be plenty,” he replied. “I’ll be working here long-term anyway, so I’ll have time to explore the menu.”

‘Sure.” Thalia nodded and dismissed the server.

She studied him across the table. “Last night, you mentioned you wanted to talk to me about Miya,” she said. “What was that about “”

The whole incident had interrupted their conversation.

She had invited him to dinner partly because she wanted to hear what he had to say.

‘She told me she wants to resign,” Clinton explained. “I heard you two are related somehow, so I wanted to ask if you know why she’s leaving.”

Thalia raised her eyebrows in surprise. ‘She went through all that trouble to worm her way into my life just to torment me, and now she wants to quit?’ she thought skeptically. ‘I don’t buy it.

‘We’re not close,” Thalia said bluntly.

Clinton nodded. “I see,” he said. “I thought you might have some insight.”

Thalia took a sip of water. Her mind raced with conflicting thoughts.

Clinton hesitated for a moment. “I have a question for you,” he said carefully. “You don’t have to answer if you’d rather not.” His expression grew more curious. “What’s your relationship with Mr. Blackburn?”

He had seen Darion today.

He recognized him immediately as the man who had shown up so suddenly last night.

Darion was the one who had swept Thalia away from the scene.

Their relationship was obviously more complicated than it appeared.

Thalia said, “He’s my husband. He’s dying.”

Clinton sucked in a sharp breath. He looked at her with sympathy. “What kind of illness does he have?” he asked.

Thalia nodded solemnly. “Terminal,” she replied.

Her expression was completely serious. She looked like she genuinely wished Darion would drop dead.

‘If he died. I’d finally have some peace, she thought.

Clinton’s face filled with regret. “I’m so sorry,” he said. “I didn’t mean to bring up something painful.”

Thalia gave him a small smule “It’s fine, she told him. Tve already accepted it. He’s the one who refuses to face realny

Clinton nodded gravely. That kind of news is devastating,” he said. “Of course it’s hard to accept Everyone wants to live longer

Thalia fought to keep her mouth from twitching. She changed the subject. “Did you find a place yet?” she asked.

Clinton’s expression turned complicated. “Thalia, did I somehow give you the impression I’m rich?” he asked “Every apartment you recommended costs a fortune. I’m just a department manager.”

Thalia raised her hands in surrender. “I’m sorry,” she said. “I really don’t know much about the rental market. You should probably contact a professional realtor.”

Clinton nodded with a conflicted look. “I already did,” he admitted.
