I Divorced You Now You Beg (Thalia and Darion) novel Chapter 19

Chapter 19 Choose

“Mom.”

“Thalia.”

“Oh, my god.”

Several shocked voices echoed.

Keith barely hesitated, sprinting straight to the pool, diving in, and stretching his tiny arms toward Miya, his little face set with determination to save his mom.

Another loud splash followed. Darion had jumped in right behind him.

Neither Miya nor Thalia could swim. Once Thalia hit the water, she released Miya, her body floating uselessly as she watched Miya thrash in the waves.

Thalia let her arms fall limp, sinking steadily toward the pool’s depths.

Fear crashed over her. Memories of nearly drowning as a child flooded back, and she shook uncontrollably, frozen in place.

That’s why she’d always been terrified of swimming.

The suffocating, drowning feeling was enough to break her.

Darion knew that, so for years, he’d never let her get anywhere near a pool.

Thalia stared at him through the murky water, wondering, ‘Who will he choose to save?’

When it came to life or death, she didn’t believe a single one of his empty explanations. Only his actions would reveal the truth.

Lights flickered above the water’s surface as she gasped for air, bubbles streaming from her lips.

Then she saw Darion wrap his arms around Keith, swim swiftly to the pool’s edge, and pass Keith to someone standing on the shore.

Without a moment’s delay, he spun around and swam directly toward her.

But just then, nearby, Miya seemed to lose all her strength, her struggles fading to nothing as she began to sink slowly beneath the water’s surface.

Thalia watched as Darion’s body froze for a split second, then he veered away, swimming straight for Miya instead.

Thalia closed her eyes tight.

In that moment, every last bit of hope in Thalia’s heart shattered into pieces.

In his world, Keith was first, Miya was second, and she was always an afterthought.

Thalia thought, ‘No, this ranking doesn’t even include anyone else yet.

‘What if Sandra and his parents were added to the list? Then I’d probably not even matter at all.’

She’d devoted eight years of her life to love a man, only to learn, in the moment that mattered most, that she would never truly be chosen by him.

Tears slid down her cheeks, vanishing into the water as she surrendered, letting herself sink, the pool’s cold embrace filling her mouth and nose,

But someone’s hand plunged into the water, hauling her up, yanking her back to the surface.

Fresh air burned her lungs, and she coughed violently, soaked to the bone, her hair clinging to her face, utterly helpless and disheveled.

“Mom!” Keith wailed, his cries echoing through the garden as he clung to Miya.

Darion climbed out of the pool and headed straight for Thalia, but Keith latched onto his leg, crying, “Darry, save my mom! I don’t want Mom to die!”

Chapter 19 Choose

Keith was a pitiful sight: soaked through, sobbing relentlessly, his small frame wracked with tears, enough to make anyone’s heart ache.

Jason quickly lifted him into his arms, patting his back gently to comfort him. “Keith, calm down. Your mom’s all right. See? She’s awake.”

Keith peeked over Jason’s shoulder, saw that Miya was conscious, and scrambled down, hurrying to her side. Miya held Keith tightly, her face deathly pale, her eyes filled with terror as she stared at Thalia, who stood nearby, motionless.

“What did you do?” Miya blurted out, her voice trembling with fear as she stared at Thalia.

A crisp breeze brushed past, and Thalia shuddered, the cold seeping into her bones.

A warm men’s jacket was placed over her shoulders. It was still warm from the person who’d been wearing it, but she didn’t lift her head to see who it was.

She only watched, numb, as Darion hurried over, his expression fraught.

“Thalia, why did you do this?” Darion asked, his voice unsteady, laced with worry and confusion.

He knelt before her, his chest aching as he took in her pale, frightened features, a pang of guilt twisting in his

gut.
