But when her eyes fell on Shyla’s unconscious, pale face, it felt like some invisible force was holding her back. She couldn’t let a single feeling slip out.
She stood off to the side, just waiting.
Darion came back after hanging up the phone. Seeing how pale she looked, he said gently, “I reached out to the best heart specialist. They’ll be here in a few days. Shyla’s going to be okay, so try not to worry.”
Thalia’s long lashes quivered, her lips tightening as she stayed quiet, not saying a word.
Darion turned to Trenton, his voice growing colder. “After everything that’s happened, you’re still blaming her. So that’s where your loyalty lies.”
Between the Coleman Group and Miya, Trenton chose Miya.
Trenton’s face contorted with fury as he shot a glare at Darion. “You…”
But after a long, tense moment, he couldn’t force out another word.
Darion’s deep, obsidian eyes stayed calm as he watched Trenton. Since he hadn’t left yet, Trenton still had a chance to take back his words.
f Darion walked out of this ward, everything that followed would be thrown into chaos.
Trenton’s eyes were full of helplessness as he looked at Thalia, all his earlier bravado gone. “Thalia, I was wrong about you, and I shouldn’t have laid a hand on you. I promise, nothing like this will ever happen again.”
Thalia’s heart shuddered deep inside her chest.
Darion looked at her and asked, “Do you want to go back and get some rest?”
Trenton said, “Darion, the Coleman Group is her only support. Please, don’t be too hard on her.”
But Darion didn’t answer him. He just kept his eyes on Thalia.
Thalia shook her head. “I’m not going back.”
Alright, then I’ll stay here with you,” Darion said, pulling over a chair for her to sit on.
The ward fell silent again.
Who knows how much time passed before a soft voice came from the hospital bed. “Thalia…”
Thalia snapped her head up and saw Shyla looking at her, her eyes teary and red, reaching out to her
Thalia paused for a second, but finally took her hand.
‘Don’t say that, please. You’re my daughter. How could I ever let you go?” Shyla’s voice was shaky, full of emotion.
Thalia wanted to speak, but her throat felt tight, like something was blocking her words. The ache was almost unbearable.

It was as if her whole heart was being ripped apart. She could barely stand the pain.
Thalia?” Shyla called out, her voice trembling with worry.
When Thalia kept quiet, Shyla grew anxious again.
“Alright.” Thalia finally replied, her voice rough and barely audible.

She couldn’t stand the thought of Shyla passing out again, or worse, never waking up. Thalia squeezed her eyes shut, her voice raspy as she forced herself to agree.
Shyla finally breathed a sigh of relief, holding Thalia’s hand tight. “Your dad was wrong to hit you. He just lost his temper. And I didn’t handle things well either. I owe you an apology too, Thalia. I’m so sorry.”
Thalia felt her eyes burn with tears. She looked away and said, “You should rest. I’m heading out now.”
Shyla nodded. “Alright, it’s late. Go home and get some sleep.”
