Darion’s face was grim. He’d worked out a surgery plan with Dr. Williams, but now, Dr. Williams had gone and changed it without even telling him.
Darion’s voice was low and dangerous. “Who got to you?”
‘Damn, this guy’s sharp. Dr. Williams thought, a jolt of alarm running through him.
But he kept his mouth shut.
He said, “I’m heading into the OR. If you’ve got any questions, we’ll talk after the surgery.”
Then he hung up.
Darion’s dark, sharp eyes lingered in deep thought for a moment before he summoned Ryan.
‘Mr. Blackburn, did you need something?” Ryan asked. He was clearly confused.
Darion spoke coolly, “Check who contacted Dr. Williams these past couple of days, and what they discussed.”
Ryan nodded. “Got it.”
Even though Ryan was puzzled, he just did as he was told and started investigating.
Darion got up and headed straight to the hospital.
Outside the operating room, Thalia sat on a chair, her eyes darting anxiously toward the doors every few seconds, her face etched with worry.
Darion walked over and sat down beside her. “Thalia, what did you do?”
Thalia stiffened, shooting him a look. “What are you talking about? I don’t get it.”
I paid Dr. Williams a fortune. He shouldn’t have betrayed me,” Darion said, his gaze probing. “Thalia, who helped you?”
Thalia had been wondering about it too, and suddenly, Matthew Evans’s words popped into her head.
Could it have been him?
But how did he pull it off?
How did he manage to get Dr. Williams to do the surgery early, without Darion even noticing?’ Thalia just couldn’t figure it
out.
Thalia’s gaze flickered briefly, then she said, ‘I don’t know.”
Her tone was cold. With his threats out of the way and Diana safely through surgery, Thalia wasn’t about to show Darion any
kindness.
And she wasn’t about to drop the charges.
Darion kept quiet, sitting next to her and occasionally tapping away at his phone, dealing with urgent matters.
Time ticked by, every second feeling like an eternity.

The surgery lasted a full eight hours.
It wasn’t until late at night that the operating room lights finally turned off.
The doors swung open, and Dr. Williams stepped out, looking completely wiped out.
Thalia rushed over, her voice trembling with anxiety. “Doctor, how is she?”

Dr. Williams gave her a reassuring smile. “The surgery was a success. As long as she gets plenty of rest, she’ll be healthy and live a long life.”
Thalia finally felt the weight lift off her chest.
She closed her eyes and let out a long, deep breath.
‘Diana’s safe now!’ Thalia thought, relief flooding through her.
Thank goodness!’ she couldn’t help but think, a wave of happiness washing over her.
“Thank you, thank you so much,” Thalia said, her eyes brimming with gratitude as she looked at Dr. Williams.
Dr. Williams gave her a searching, complicated look, then suddenly asked, “Mrs. Blackburn, I still don’t know your name.”
“I’m Thalia,” Thalia replied, making sure he got the spelling right.
A flicker of confusion crossed Dr. Williams’s face. “That’s a name I’ve never heard before. But the one who instructed me said I had to make sure all her requests were met,’ he thought.
“What’s her connection to that guy?’ Dr. Williams wondered, thinking of Matthew Evans.
Noticing Thalia’s curious gaze, Dr. Williams quickly pulled himself together and said, “I’m really wiped out. I’m calling it a day. Let’s save the thank-yous for another time.”
“Okay,” Thalia replied.
Thalia didn’t notice the shift in his expression; her eyes were fixed on Diana as she was wheeled out.
Diana was still unconscious, her head wrapped in white bandages, her breathing slow and steady.
Once they were back in the hospital room and the nurse had left, Thalia called Matthew Evans.
“Hey, surgery’s done?” Matthew said, sounding like he’d been waiting for her call, a smile in his voice.
