Darion had just come downstairs when he heard the bodyguard’s report, and his expression turned grim.
“Share the location with me,” Darion demanded.
They were already tailing the car, and Darion followed close behind, mobilizing his team to block their escape routes.
Meanwhile, in the white BMW, the driver glanced at the rearview mirror and snorted quietly.
‘So there really is someone secretly watching over her. Too bad they’re pretty useless,’ he thought.
His eyes landed on the woman in the back seat, a look of scrutiny and interest flickering across his face.
The driver swiftly changed lanes, overtook cars, took sharp turns, and hit the gas, quickly losing the car that was tailing him.
Then, he pulled over on a stretch of road with no surveillance cameras, got out, opened the back door, and gripped Thalia’s chin, examining her face intently.
He even lifted her eyelids to inspect her eyes.
He took several pictures of her, tugged out a few strands of her hair, then shut the door and walked away.
While walking away, he stripped off his disguise.
He tossed the hood, mask, and his clothes into a trash can.
Finally, his tall figure disappeared into the shadows.
Thalia woke up to someone calling her name.
She groggily opened her eyes and found Darion staring at her, worry written all over his face.
She paused, sat up, and the memories of what happened before she blacked out came rushing back.
She hurriedly checked herself. Her clothes were intact, and she was unharmed.
You’re safe,” Darion said, relief clear in his voice as he looked at her.
Thalia breathed out, feeling the tension leave her, then asked, “Where are we right now?”
Darion explained, “We’re not out of town yet, just somewhere near the city limits.”
When he got there, her car was parked on the roadside. He rushed over, opened the door, and found Thalia passed out in the back seat.
“Thalia, do you remember what the guy who kidnapped you looked like?” Darion asked, his voice tense and low.
Thalia frowned, searching her memory. “He was a street cleaner. I barely saw his face.”
She hadn’t suspected a thing from the street cleaner, which is exactly how she ended up in this mess. Thalia felt a wave of frustration with herself.

But then, Thalia wondered, ‘Who would go through all this trouble to kidnap me? And what are they after?

Darion’s gaze turned even colder. “Thalia, I’m beefing up your security. I never want to see something like this happen to you again.”
Thalia just frowned, keeping quiet.
The stuff she inhaled still made her head feel fuzzy. She had no clue who would want to kidnap her, so she decided not to dwell on it.
Darion drove them back into the city.
When they arrived at the hospital, Trenton had already left, but Shyla was still there.
“Thalia, Darion, you two should head home and get some rest. Leave this to me,” Shyla said gently.
Thalia shook her head. “I don’t feel comfortable with you here. Please leave.”
