Chapter 27 Sandra Is Sick
Darion’s brows furrowed. “It’s from Blackburn Manor.”
He answered it. “Hello?”
Jadiel’s anxious voice came through. “Mr. Darion, you need to get to the hospital right away. Madam
Blackburn passed out.”
Darion’s expression turned grave instantly. “Alright, I’m coming.”
Thalia gritted her teeth. “You liar.”
“My grandma is in the hospital. She passed out,” Darion said, his tone serious as he looked at her. “We need to go.”
Thalia turned her head away, her voice cold and detached. “I’m not going. This has nothing to do with me.” “Thalia, we’re not divorced yet, and she’s still your elder,” Darion said, his tone growing heavier, sharper with
urgency.
The car air turned thick with stifling tension, neither of them speaking another word.
Darion started the engine and drove rapidly toward the hospital.
The sharp, cold smell of disinfectant permeated the hospital corridor, and Jadiel waited anxiously outside the emergency room, his face ashen.
“Mr. Darion, you’re finally here. I was so worried,” Jadiel said, his voice trembling as he saw Darion. “Madam Blackburn fainted suddenly while strolling in the garden. I’ve contacted your parents, but they won’t return for at least three days.”
Darion’s handsome face was grave. “What did the doctors say?”
Jadiel shook his head. “They haven’t said anything. She’s still being resuscitated.”
“Fine,” Darion replied.
He quickly took out his phone, making a call to request the hospital’s leading surgeon to operate on the matriarch.
Thalia stood a few steps away, her pretty face impassive, her gaze fixed on her feet, not a flicker of concern in her eyes.
Thankfully, Sandra pulled through. She’d suffered a sudden stroke, now lying in bed, frail and haggard.
Miya and Keith came to the hospital shortly after.
Sandra reached out her hand, and Miya immediately took it.
Then Sandra turned to Darion, her eyes clouded and unfocused. She called out in a daze, “Emely…”
Darion heard her, his lips pressing into a thin, tight line, but he didn’t correct her. Instead, he took her hand. Sandra managed a faint smile, then gently placed their hands together, murmuring, “Take care of each other…”
When Thalia returned from buying water, she caught sight of Darion’s and Miya’s hands clasped together. She squeezed the water bottle so hard it warped, the creaking sound drawing everyone’s attention.
Darion pulled his hand back abruptly, looking at her. “Where were you?”
Thalia forced a bitter, mocking smile. “You’re not even hiding it anymore? Why not get the divorce over with first? Otherwise, your beloved Miya will be shamed for being a homewrecker.”
Miya hurried to shake her head, her voice flustered. “Lia, you’ve got it all wrong. Sandra confused Darion with Emely.”
“Oh…” Thalia nodded slowly. “Sandra’s confused because she’s sick, but what’s your excuse? Can’t you say no?”
Miya paused, then bit down on her lip, her eyes filling with hurt. “I don’t want to let her down. She just woke up. She can’t handle any more upset right now.”
