Chapter 297
Chapter 297
Thaha had a vague sense of what was going on. The first bullet landed right in her way, blocking her path.
The second one came straight for her.
Whoever was hiding in the shadows was after her.
But who on earth would want to hurt her?
Did she piss someone off?

Thalia’s mind was all over the place, but this wasn’t the moment to get lost in her thoughts. She felt Darion’s grip suddenly tighten around her, and for a split second, she worried he might squeeze the breath right out of her.
Darion took a deep breath, then hurried her over to the car, yanked the door open, and pushed her inside.
“Hide.” he ordered in a low voice.
He said it curtly, then moved around to the other side and got in.
Even as he did all this, he kept scanning their surroundings for any sign of trouble.
The retreat was nestled halfway up the mountain, with dense woods in the distance and hardly any traffic around.
The peaceful surroundings made it the ideal spot for the elderly or patients to recover.
But no one expected someone would take advantage of the peace and quiet like this.
Darion couldn’t help but recall the last time Thalia was drugged and kidnapped by someone pretending to be a sanitation worker.
‘Are these two incidents connected? Could they be from the same group?’ he wondered.
Dax and Ryan had already locked onto the target, and no more shots rang out. Darion jumped into the car, fired engine, and sped off toward the city.

Thalia had been crouched down under the passenger seat, and only when the car started moving did she finally sit up, emerging from her hiding spot.
Her face was ghostly pale, and her voice trembled as she asked, “Who were they?”
Darion replied, “I’m not sure yet, but I’ll find out.”
“Is it the same group as last time?” Thalia asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
She thought of last time too.
Darion’s tone grew heavier. “Could be, but it’s too soon to tell.”
Thalia was trembling all over.
The biggest thing she’d ever gone through in her life was that earthquake.
But lately, she’d been hit with one unexpected thing after another

Her mind was a mess, and she kept wondering who she could’ve possibly pissed off.
But none of the people she’d had beef with were powerful enough to pull something like this.

If any of them really had the guts, they’d have finished me off ages ago. Thalia thought, trying to steady herself. “There’s no way they’d wait until now.”
To Thalia, the road ahead felt like a giant riddle, inching closer and closer, its shadow slowly wrapping around her, making it impossible to see what was coming next.
As the car rolled into the city, Darion eased off the gas, slowing down.
“Thalia…”
Darion’s voice came from beside her, hoarse and barely holding it together.
Thalia turned to look at him and saw his forehead slick with cold sweat, his face ghostly pale.
She gasped, “What’s wrong with you?”
Darion said, “You drive. Take me to the hospital. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be okay.”
As he spoke, he pulled the car over to the side of the road.
Thalia hurried to the driver’s seat, while Darion opened his door and stepped out.
