Thalia paused for a moment, then joked. “Why do I feel like you’re even more anxious than I am?”

There was a brief silence on the other end before Matthew replied. “Hey… I just hate seeing you suffer. Besides, I’m sull waiting for you to get divorced so I can chase after you.”

Thalia’s eyelid twitched. “Matthew, don’t joke about that.”

Matthew laughed. “You actually bought it? Relax, I’m just teasing you. But honestly, I really can’t stand seeing you get hurt. Right now, all we can do is wait.

“Still, I think Darion’s up to something. He’s not the type to just sit back and wait for the court date. Maybe this was a fluke. but next time, he might really pull something crazy.”

“Okay, I know,” Thalia replied.

She didn’t dwell on what he said.

This was all targeted at her; there’s no way Darion could’ve seen it coming.

After hanging up, she headed toward the hospital room when her phone rang again. It was Dax, and his tone was serious. “Ms. Coleman, got a moment? Can we meet?”

Thalia’s heart tightened. “Is there any update on the first issue?”

“Yeah.” Dax replied.

Thalia took a deep breath. “I’ll pick a spot, you come find me.”

“Alright,” Dax said.

The scent of coffee filled the air in the coffee room. Each private booth was well separated, and you could see outside through the windows, so you didn’t have to worry about anyone overhearing.

Dax pushed the door open and walked in. “Ms. Coleman, how did you find a place like this? It’s pretty classy.”

Thalia gave a faint smile. “I’ve been here before, with someone else.”

She gestured to the seat across from her. “Take a seat, have some coffee, and let’s talk.”

Dax waved his hand. “I’m not really into coffee. Let me just get straight to it.”

Dax glanced around before speaking. “The people who attacked you that day were from an overseas group. They snuck in, didn’t bring many bullets, used them all up, and then took off.

“I couldn’t catch them, but I checked the area around the nursing home and your mom’s call records. Following the clues, I found out your mom knows the director of the nursing home, and before all this, the director had been in touch with someone else.”

He paused, giving her a complicated look.

Thalia’s heart tightened for no reason. ‘Is it someone I know?’ she wondered.

“It’s fine, just tell me. Thalia said.

Dax nodded. The director contacted Matthew.”

Thalia’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Impossible!”
