Darion’s expression stayed cool and distant, his eyes occasionally flicking to the antique clock on the wall.
Helen didn’t care about his aloofness. She was just worried about him, so she spoke up again. “Darion, I know you’re still hung up on Thalia, but things between you two are over. She doesn’t love you anymore. It’s time to
move on.”
“Who says I’m not over her?” Darion finally spoke, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
The man who had been silent until now finally spoke, his tone laced with mockery, and the atmosphere instantly turned icy.
Helen was stunned for a second, then laughed. “If you can let go, that’s for the best. There are so many women out there. You’ll find someone you really care about sooner or later. If you can move on, I won’t have to worry about you.”
Darion just left it at that, saying nothing more.
Helen glanced at the clock and said, “Darion, Mom’s leaving now.”
“Mm.”
This time, Darion actually looked at her. “Safe travels.”
“Okay,” Helen replied.
She turned and walked out of Blackburn Manor.
The second hand on the antique clock kept ticking, while the minute hand slowly moved forward.
Darion sat alone in the quiet living room for a long time, then got up and walked upstairs.
The nanny was looking after Keith.
He was taking a nap and didn’t hear the commotion downstairs.
Darion sat by the bed, watching the sleeping little guy with a serious, almost tender gaze. After a while, a trace of helplessness flickered in his eyes.
Darion arranged for two more nannies to take care of Keith.
Keith was now old enough for kindergarten, and he’ll be starting next month.
Once he got busy with school, he wouldn’t think about his mother anymore.
Once Darion had everything set up, he got in his car and headed straight for City Hall.
But just then, his phone started ringing.

He pulled it out and saw it was his bodyguard calling.
“Hello?” Darion answered.
:
The bodyguard’s voice was frantic. “Mr. Blackburn, bad news. Mrs. Miya Blackburn is gone!”
Darion’s brows furrowed instantly. He demanded, “What happened?”
The bodyguard quickly explained what had happened.

Once Miya got in the car, she stayed quiet the whole ride to the airport and didn’t cause any trouble.
When they got to the airport, she said she needed to use the restroom. They couldn’t really stop her, so they waited right outside.
The airport restroom was busy, with people coming and going nonstop. The bodyguards watched everyone carefully, trying not to miss a thing.
But half an hour passed, and Miya still hadn’t come out.
As the plane was about to board, the bodyguards asked airport staff to check the restroom. But when they went in, Miya was nowhere to be found.
She had disappeared.
Darion pressed his fingers to his temples, his voice deep and authoritative. “Pull up the security footage from the restroom entrance for that timeframe and review it thoroughly. Don’t miss a thing.”
“Yes, sir,” the bodyguard replied.
Miya never made it onto the plane. She hid herself and disappeared without a trace.
Darion hadn’t seen that coming.
He never expected her to have the guts, or the skill, to pull off an escape.
Darion’s fingers tapped against his thigh, his face growing darker by the second.
