Chapter 35 Someone Better
At the voice acting studio, Thalia had just finished her audition and was led to the waiting room.
Wendy was with her, trying to hype her up. “Relax, you killed it! Your voice was so steady, so raw with emotion. I almost teared up standing outside the door. This role is definitely yours.”
Thalia, who’d stayed calm throughout the audition, felt a flutter of nervousness creep in because of Wendy’s excitement. “Alright, let’s just wait for the result.”
After a short wait, the project manager and voice director, Wesley Chase, walked in together.
Wesley cut straight to the chase. “Are you Ms. Thalia Coleman?”
“Yes,” Thalia replied, standing up with a polite smile and a nod.
Wesley gestured for her to sit. “Take a seat, no need to be so formal. I heard your audition. Your emotional delivery is strong. That’s great.
“But it’s clear you haven’t done this kind of voice acting in a while. Your grasp of dramatic tension needs a little polish.”
Thalia’s heart skipped a beat, nerves tightening in her chest. “That’s true.”
Wesley shot a look at the project manager, then said, “Head home and wait for our call. Barring any surprises, we’ll sign you on. Your voice is perfect for the female lead. Once you get back into the rhythm, you’ll be even better.”
Thalia’s eyes sparkled with hope and excitement immediately. “Thank you, Mr. Chase.”
Once they stepped out of the studio, Wendy let out a deep breath. “I knew it! The minute you agreed to audition, I knew you’d succeed.”
Beaming, Thalia put a hand on her shoulder. “Let me treat you to a meal.”
“Sure!” Wendy cheered.
After a few steps, Wendy glanced over and teased, “Hey, can you afford to treat me?”
Thalia had no idea how to reply.
That stung. Because her card had still been frozen.
Wendy spotted Thalia’s stiff expression and grinned, wrapping an arm around her. “Hey, women can survive a lot of things, but poverty? Not a chance.
“Get your career up and running, girl, and keep your money in your own pocket. Then no one can mess with your head.”
“Yeah, that’s it,” Thalia replied.
Thalia nodded. She thought of the various cards in her wallet, some from Trenton, some from Darion.
She was the heiress of the Coleman family and Mrs. Thalia Blackburn. Money had never crossed her mind as
a worry.
And the thought of ever being short on cash had never crossed her wildest dreams.
Now she understood at last: self-reliance was the only safety net.
“Don’t worry, girl. Dinner’s my treat tonight! Once you start making money, you can treat me next time!” Wendy said, nudging her playfully.
“Alright,” Thalia chuckled.
The two walked out side by side, their faces lit up with joy.
Thalia and Wendy had barely left when Miya appeared.
Two days passed, and Wesley still hadn’t called. Her anxiety grew by the minute.
‘I thought it was all settled. But why hasn’t he reached out?’ Thalia wondered.

Chapter 35 Someone Better
After going back and forth with herself for a long time, Thalia finally called Wesley to check in.
“Alas… Your voice really fits the female lead, but you’re too out of practice. I’ve already found someone who’s a better fit. I’m sorry,” Wesley said, and hung up right after.
