“You bastard!”

Thalia glared at him and demanded, “Let me go!”

Darion’s breathing grew heavier as he watched the anger flare in her eyes. Suddenly, he lowered himself toward her.

In an instant, his nose touched hers.

Thalia froze.

The difference in strength between them was glaring. He had her completely under his control, and she couldn’t budge an inch.

If he really wanted to do something, there was no way she could resist him.

But Thalia wanted nothing to happen between them. All she wanted was for this mess to end as soon as possible.

She struggled to keep her temper in check, glaring at him.

When Thalia finally quieted down, a trace of self-mockery flashed in Darion’s eyes.

Darion said, his voice low, “Who knows what’s watching you from the shadows? Did you forget?”

After a long silence, Darion finally spoke.

Thalia turned her gaze away, but his breath was hot on her skin, washing over her face.

Darion stared at her pale, delicate features and went on, “Thalia, you have to trust me. I won’t hurt you.”

Thalia still didn’t say a word.

But Darion wasn’t satisfied. He grabbed her chin and said, “If you’re not going to use your mouth to talk, maybe you can use it for something else.”

With that, he kissed her.

Thalia turned her face away again, so his lips brushed her cheek instead.

Thalia snapped, “I get it!”

Darion’s breath brushed against her cheek, sending waves of heat through her skin.

His lips stayed pressed there, warm and unmoving.

Thalia tried to shrink back, but with him pinning her down in the car, there was nowhere for her to go.

“Darion, I said I get it! Get off me!” Thalia snapped, her voice a little unsteady.

For some reason, Thalia suddenly felt flustered.

The next second, Darion got off her.

Thalia scrambled to sit up, her eyes full of wariness as she watched him.

Darion didn’t spare her another glance. He just slid into the driver’s seat and drove off.

The night outside was pitch-black, and as Thalia stared out the window, a creeping sense of fear finally caught up with her.

She’d been way too careless.

‘What if someone’s still out there watching me?’ Thalia wondered, her nerves on edge.

‘Those people really do want me dead!’ The thought sent chills down her spine.

Her eyes drifted to Darion at the wheel.

He wasn’t exactly Mr. Nice Guy, but compared to the alternative, sticking with him was way safer.

They drove in silence for over ten minutes, and soon the city lights were coming into view.
