Thalia flipped through the files. Alice’s background was pretty simple. She was just an ordinary local resident. Her husband worked as a security guard, their kid was in college, and Alice had been a nanny for years, making a pretty good living.
Barbara, who looked after Diana, was a divorced mom. Her daughter already had a solid job at a foreign firm and made good money.
Connie, the cleaner, had a son who had landed a job at a foreign company too.
Thalia crossed Alice off her list right away.
Glancing at the remaining two files, she turned to Dax and asked, “What are the names of the companies where Barbara and Connie’s kids work? And who are the bosses?”
Hu grinned. “I knew you’d notice that, so I already did some digging.”
He flipped through the files and said, “Connie’s son works at a media company. The boss’s last name is Evans.”
Then he opened another file and added, “Barbara’s daughter’s company is run by a boss named Flynn.”
Thalia stared at the company names and the bosses’ last names, suddenly speechless.
‘Flynn?
‘Evans?
‘Could it really be this much of a coincidence?’ Thalia couldn’t help but wonder.
Dax continued, “Since you think the problem might be with the nannies, that makes both of them suspects.”
“But… why though?” Thalia was genuinely confused.
Her mind immediately jumped to Sebastian Flynn and Matthew Evans.
‘Are these two nannies working for them?’ Thalia wondered.
‘Why would they plant people around me? Are they trying to spy on me?’ Thalia felt a chill run down her spine.
‘Why would Sebastian Flynn want to spy on me?’ Thalia wondered.
There was no bad blood between them. They’d even agreed to work together recently.
‘Why would Matthew Evans be watching me?
‘Hasn’t he always been helping me?
‘I have no idea what’s going on anymore,’ Thalia thought, her mind in total chaos.

Dax paused, looking a bit lost. “I really don’t know. Maybe we should ask Zane? Maybe he can find out something for us.”
“Okay,” Thalia replied.
Thalia nodded slowly.
Sitting in the café, everything felt surreal to Thalia.
Just then, her phone rang. She checked the caller ID. It was Diana calling.
Her eyes flickered with mixed feelings as she answered, “Hello, Diana.”
“Thalia, all three have been let go,” Diana said, her tone serious. “So, none of them are staying?”
Thalia lowered her head, rubbing her temples. “Seems that way. I plan to let them all go and find new ones.”
Diana responded, “Alright, I’ll follow your lead. We can’t risk it.”
“I’m heading back now, so don’t stress. Nothing bad’s going to happen,” Thalia said, her voice gentle as she tried to comfort Diana.
“At my age, what is there left to fear? It’s you I’m worried about,” Diana let out a long, weary sigh.
