Connie was clearly taken aback, a hint of confusion flickering across her face. “Ms. Coleman, did I do something wrong?”

Thalia gave her a gentle smile and shook her head. “No, it’s nothing like that. I’ve got some free time lately, so I can take care of Diana myself.”

Diana spoke up, “I’m getting old. I just don’t like having too many people around.”

Connie nodded and went to pack her things.

When Barbara and Alice came back, Thalia told them the same thing.

Barbara didn’t react much, but Alice frowned slightly. “Ms. Coleman, are you sure you can handle everything by yourself?”

“I can,” Thalia replied.

Thalia gave her a second look.

Alice still looked worried. “Did we do something wrong? If there’s anything, just tell us.”

Thalia said, “We just like things to be peaceful and quiet around here.”

“But…” Alice still wanted to say something.

Thalia looked straight at her and asked, “You really want to stay? Why?”

Alice’s back went rigid for a moment, then she replied, “It’s just so sudden. Honestly, you and Diana are both really easy to get along with, and I’ve enjoyed my time here. To be honest, it’s a relief to work for employers who treat you well.”

She looked completely sincere, and her words matched her expression.

But Thalia wasn’t taking any chances. “Don’t worry, I won’t give the agency any reason to worry. I’ll just say I want to look after Diana myself, that’s all.”

Since Thalia was so firm about it, Alice nodded and went off to pack her things.

The next day, all three nannies packed up and left.

That afternoon, the candidates Zane had personally screened came in for interviews.

Zane even called Thalia to reassure her. “Ms. Coleman, I handpicked these people myself. You and Diana can trust them completely.”

Thalia smiled. “Thanks.”

Zane replied, “Ms. Coleman, don’t mention it. It’s really no big deal.”

Thalia replied, then added, “Come over for dinner sometime when you’re free. Diana’s been saying she misses you.”

Zane replied, “Sure.”

This time, there were two nannies: Debbie, who would handle cooking and cleaning, and Edith, who would focus on taking care of Diana.

Thalia checked their profiles. They both seemed straightforward and tidy. Neither of them had any children, and Edith was divorced.

Thalia felt a bit more relaxed.

Just then, Darion Blackburn sent her a file.

A look of confusion crossed Thalia’s face as she opened it. It was information about the children of the previous nannies.

Connie’s son worked at a company owned by a branch of the Evans family. The boss was Matthew Evans’ cousin, and they were pretty close.

They’d even met up a few times recently, and the file included photos as proof.
