Thalia gripped her phone tightly, itching to call Matthew Evans and ask him directly, but without any proof, how was she supposed to bring it up?
Her feelings were a tangled mess.
Just then, her phone buzzed again.
Darion: [Kaelin and Matthew Evans have pretty complicated identities.]
That was all.
‘Is he trying to hint at something?’ Thalia wondered.
Thalia pressed her lips together, lost in thought for a long moment before finally setting her phone down.
She couldn’t find an excuse to ask.
With doubts in her mind, she’d stay on guard and quietly sound Matthew out the next time they met.
Then, it suddenly hit her. Matthew Evans hadn’t shown up in ages.
Ever since the trial got postponed, he hadn’t even sent her a single message.
‘What’s he been up to?’ Thalia wondered.
Maybe she could give him a call in advance to test the waters.
Thalia didn’t hesitate. She dialed Matthew Evans’ number right away.
After three rings, the call finally connected.
“Hello, Thalia,” Matthew Evans said.
His voice was warm and gentle, with a smile in it.
“What have you been up to lately? I haven’t heard from you in ages,” Thalia asked.
Matthew Evans sighed softly. “It’s just family drama. Things have gotten pretty heated at home, and even though I’ve been left out, I still got pulled right into the mess. Honestly, it’s been overwhelming.”
‘Got it, Thalia thought, then asked, “Are you free tonight? Want to grab dinner?”
Matthew Evans let out a light laugh. “Sure, where do you want to eat?”
Thalia said, “I’ll text you the place.”
“Alright,” Sebastian replied.

After hanging up, Thalia’s eyes briefly showed a hint of contemplation.
During the call, nothing felt unusual. He was as easygoing as ever, just like before.
‘I’ll watch him more closely when we meet later, Thalia thought.
That evening, after letting Diana know she wouldn’t be home for dinner, Thalia headed out.
She and Matthew Evans arrived at the restaurant almost at the same time.
As soon as he saw her, Matthew Evans grinned. “Looks like fate. We ended up arriving together.”
Thalia smiled and nodded. “Exactly. Come on, let’s head inside.”
She’d booked a private room by the window, so they could take in the river at night.

Matthew Evans asked, “How have you been lately? Been keeping busy? And how’s the divorce process with Darion coming along?”
Thalia let out a sigh. “It’s been a rollercoaster. Something always comes up.”
